Actually, I like the mundaneness of Daniel doing his taxes and just hearing the kids (not realizing Sam's in on it too). Just the way you built up the story was excellently done. (Yes, I know I'm giving serious critiqute to crackfic. It's a sickness.)

And Claire picking Jack's jell-o cover. And Daniel going between wanting to come to Jack's defense and seeking revenge.

Sam the military strategist coordinating on all flanks.

I think this is true of all children. It's certainly true of my Small Child. We used to get advance warning that she was doing or about to do something Bad because we would suddenly hear giggles.
