Winry had never really liked coffee. She couldn't see why anyone drank it; it was disgusting! Even with cream and sugar added, it had a bitter taste she didn't like, and so kept to drinking tea or hot chocolate when she wanted something warm.
Granny had told her once it was an acquired taste, and that she might like it more as she got older, but at fifteen, she still disliked at much as when she'd first snuck a taste out of her father's mug at four.
The first time Ed kissed her, in an empty hospital room when she came to visit him and Al after the Promised Day, she could tell he'd been drinking coffee just prior, probably black, and he tasted dark and bitter in all the right ways.
The next morning she stirred cream and sugar into a cup of hot coffee and told herself that Ed had nothing to do with the fact that she suddenly disliked it a little less.
