PERSONALITY:
Shion Yutaka, otherwise known as pop idol ‘Sei’, is a bright, flashy kind of guy. With a bright smile and easy charm, it’s easy to see the reason his popularity has swelled of late. He has a natural sort of charisma, which may be why people tend to ignore his sometimes sarcastic and biting humor. In front of the cameras, in public, as ‘Sei’, the teenager is charming and friendly, always willing to smile and sign whatever piece of parchment is shoved at him. He’s flirty and cheerful and very affectionate, seeming to love fame and his hordes of fangirls.
It couldn’t be farther from the truth. Yutaka is a bitter, cynical young man. He hates his fangirls, noting that they only stick around because of his fame and his money, and as soon as the next big thing comes around, he’ll be forgotten and abandoned. He’s bitingly sarcastic, bratty, and reacts extremely badly to any kind of touch. He tolerates men slightly more than women, but still believes that he’ll be abandoned the moment he’s no longer the perfect image people want.
Yutaka is much more intelligent than the persona he presents-he constantly plays dumb, and finds himself utterly bored with the people around him. So when the cameras and paparazzi aren’t hounding, he’ll poke and prod, looking for any sort of reaction. So why doesn’t he shove off, if he hates the false affection fame gets him? It’s simple.
Yutaka is intensely, deeply lonely, but is so embittered by his past that getting him to admit to needing other people might like be pulling teeth from a hippo.
BACKGROUND:
Yutaka’s parents should have never had children. This is something of which he has no doubt-his father had skipped out when he was three years old, and his mother, already having heavy drinking problems, turned more and more to gambling and booze to escape from having to deal with taking care of her son. When the money ran out, she took him from family member to family member, bumming what time and money she could from them. It was an uncle, during their stay with him, who had taught a young Yutaka a few chords on a guitar, and gave him an old, barely in-tune one for his own. He fought his mother hard to keep it, and eventually triumphed, but at a price-he would have to earn his keep. He played some on street corners, but people weren’t always so willing to pay him enough for food, much less his mother’s booze addiction. There was one thing many people were willing to pay for-Yutaka’s bright red hair and pretty face got him attention he would wish bitterly he’d been ignored for. But they’d pay for dates, and in no small amount, either.
His life took a turn for the worse when his mother was turned over to a pimp due to her gambling debts. She gave him to the man in payment, and things looked very bad for him…save that man had heard him on the street corners before, and had another thing in mind for him. He could make it big off the kid…turn him into a star and rake in the dough. It was he who paid for some schooling-teaching him to read, getting him singing and guitar lessons, and cleaning him up. Not long after he turned 16, five years after his mother had abandoned him to his fate, Yutaka was scouted.
And then, a year later, as his popularity swelled, he broke off all contact with the man who took him in…only for his mother to come calling again. Yutaka was disgusted-she came back with false tears and fake affection now that he was worth something. He rebuffed her, although more gently, more inkeeping with the new mask he’d made. And so he kept on, growing in popularity just as he grew more and more disillusioned with the entire affair.
Moving to Raitou, a city he’d never been to and knew no one in, could do him some good, right?
SAMPLE POST:
Keep in touch with my fans, he says. Why the hell would I want to?
Ahahaha~ Hello, hello~ Ishi-tan made this blog for me, so I could keep in touch with you all, hello! I’ve made it safely to my new-it really is a beautiful place! I’ll have to take some pictures later.
Speaking of which, the place I’m staying in is really impressive1 (*A*;; ) It’s so extravagant, I almost feel embarrassed by it all. The TV is nearly bigger than I am! And the whole building has wi-fi, which is great.
I’ll have to talk more once I get unpacked…but it was a long train ride, and I need a nap~ Keep being beautiful, my lovelies. Bai bai~
ROLEPLAYING SAMPLE:
Sometimes Yutaka wondered if his smile would get stuck after a photoshoot. He rubbed his jaw, staring out the car window. He still needed to unpack and settle into his new apartment, but they’d wanted to get a shot of him. His manager hadn’t approved of his decision to come out here…but he’d managed to agree to still do some promo work and recordings for a new album, just no shows and meet-and-greets with fans.
His phone rang, startling Sei out of his reverie. He glanced down at it, before sighing. His mother…why had Ishida even given her his phone number. He watched it ring, and ring, and ring, before finally clicking to voicemail as the van pulled up to his new home. Sei just gave a dismissive wave to the driver as he went inside, flipping his phone open to listen to the voicemail.
’Yutaka, Yuu, baby, why’d you leave town? Ishida-san wouldn’t tell me where you went…come on, I just want to see you…you’re not still angry, are you?’ He snapped the phone shut, throwing it hard against the wall and watching it shatter.
“…Damn woman…” How dare she? Why the hell would she decide to care now? It’s not like she had before he’d been famous. It’s not like she’d cared when she’d sold him for booze and card games. Sei’s eyes narrowed, and he leaned down to pick up the pieces of his phone.
How unsightly.
