Fuck HARTZ
Those bastards! Please, if you love your animals... do not buy ANY Hartz products. I just got back from the Vet. Let me go ahead and reccommed the Kingstowne Cat Clinic to anyone in Springfield who has cats... they are AWESOME. So kind and caring and understanding. Lyne (the vet) said many, many helpful things, but one very important one. She sees cases like these all the time, all from Hartz products. Even though you can complain and they might take something off the market, you cannot keep up because they will just repackage it and sell it as something else.
The kitties both got Cortisone shots and are home safe, although Leto is still trying to scratch. Might have to give him extra... he's a big boy and his reaction is worse. They are both on watch until tomorrow to see if they will need another shot. Keep your fingers crossed. As we were leaving, one of the other vets said he learned the hard way about Hartz too, when he bathed his chow in Hartz flea dip. She lost ALL her hair.
Also, if you are like me you always thought that hard food was better for your cats... the vet says they are rethinking that. She said soft food is packed with more protein and hard food is mostly carbs. She actually called it the CATKINS diet - adorable, right? She said that most people who feed their cats hard food leave it out so the cats "graze" and get fat. Soft food is more timed and less frequent. She said most cats don't chew their food (and I thought mine were the only ones) so hard food isn't really keeping their teeth clean anyway. So.... after they get their teeth cleaned, they are going on a soft food diet.
Both cats now have a dental appointment. Please, oh, please let this be the last fucking post about cats.
