Maybe if "Doomsday" hadn't been so horrible to epic proportions, I might feel differently. However, I have to say that I'm not really feeling too sympathetic over "Smallville" being moved to Friday nights. Honestly, I believe it's the CW's passive-aggressive way of saying that they are done with the show, IMO. And you know your show has gone on too long when even the most die-hard fans are finally happy because they're thinking that their show is finally getting a kick in the ass to end it. But you know what? If that's what will force them to realize that season nine is the end, then I'm okay. Because really? This show should've ended with season five, but if I'm being generous, it should've definitely ended with season seven. The fact that they are entertaining a season ten is just insane. I'm still at a loss as to why you'd continue the story of Clark Kent becoming Superman without Lex turning into the Lex Luthor we all know. Part of the reason I started watching this show is because I couldn't wait for the day when both men would be standing side by side, finally at their respective destinies. When Michael Rosenbaum announced that he wouldn't renew his contract passed season seven, preparations should've been made to end the show that season. And even though I haven't always been Lana's greatest fan, I don't think they should've gone on without Kristin Kreuk, either. Letting the parents go was hard, and at times, I do miss AOT/Martha, JS/Jonathan, and JG/Lionel, but I was okay with that. But you know what? This show isn't like a procedural where the characters don't necessarily matter as much as the general plot of the episode does. This is "Smallville" we're talking about. Of course it makes a difference whether or not the characters who started their journeys along with Clark are still there when the show ends! Otherwise, what is the point?! And as much as I think Sam Witwer and Cassidy Freeman did a great job with both of their characters, nothing will ever replace MR's presence on this show. I think Tom Welling and Allison Mack, the only two who've been on the show since the Pilot, really did try to bring some stability amongst the cast changes, but ultimately, you could feel the loss of the other characters who used to be on this show. I miss the days where I couldn't wait for a new episode to air and was just in general excited about the show. Now, I'm just counting the days.
