You pretty much summed up the problems I'm having with the show.
It doesn't even feel like Smallville. It's off. Instinct was my first watch for the season. I've been dvr'ng the show but decided to watch for the fever letter.
What they did was cruel, hurtful, and low. The writers/producers totally broke the trust I had with them as a viewer.
Clark/Lois as written/acted is not working. Clark/Tom seems like he is off, not invested, going through the motions halfheartedly. And Lois/Erica is hyper, rude, insulting, and obnoxious to him for no reason, and not in a cute, clever, or funny way. At all.
As a person who has been working in Journalism for over 10 years, it is not easy to break into the field when you do have experience and education behind you. So, Clark's intro was very disappointing.
I'm not watching any more but as a sometime journalist myself, I have to agree with the frustration on this aspect. I was just thinking, too, about how in S1 even though Clark was fairly clueless, being a doofy teenage boy, he was also presented as - shock - intelligent. He was supposed to be good at school work and he did write for the school paper with Chloe. But very quickly it all switched to Simple Farm Boy Smash

It is completely frustrating. Movies and tv shows do contribute to that belief and the one-dimensional/stereotypical portrayal of journalists and writers.

It just makes me blood boil. Journalism is hard work. And the training, starting (at least in my experience) from a high school level and internships at my local newspaper, have shown me how important the experience and training is. Everyone is not a great writer; in fact, I'd honestly say it is a gift. The fact that shows like SV in addition to plenty others consider it as something that any blow-Joe off the street can do is offensive and bullshit.

Exactly, and on a metatextual level, I don't blame Clark; I blame the writers. It just all could've been handled so much better, and I feel as though I'm supposed to eat it because Clark Kent ends up at the Daily Planet anyway. Well, I'm sorry, but no.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the hell is going on, but it needs to be fixed and everyone on the same page.

Yep. Now I'm beginning to understand other people's lack of faith in the show.
