Happy Birthday, Tom!

Happy 31st birthday, Tom!

In honor of his birthday, I'd like to post a few of my favorite acting moments/episodes from him on the show.

1) Vengeance - I think this is probably in my top 5 favorite episodes of Smallville, and I think it's one of Tom's best episodes on the show ever. All throughout the episode, you could tell Clark was brimming with anger over what happened with his dad and trying to focus on anything other than saying goodbye. Then in the final scene, he breaks down in his mother's arms. I think it wa such a beautiful moment, and Tom sold it very well. I'm sure that particular scene touched a lot of people.

2) Descent - This episode was great, and probably the best, if not one of the best, of the entire season. Tom's performance in the episode, especially in the mansion scene with MR/Lex, was one of the best scenes in the show's history. His delivery of  "What happened to you?" and his horror at what Lex has done was just so palpable to the viewers, and he expressed Clark's thoughts about what happened to his former best friend beautifully.

3) Splinter - I have to say that I think this episode largely rested on how effective Tom was portraying a crazed, ranting, paranoid individual, and he succeedly greatly. I thought he was absolutely frightening when I first saw this episode, and I still feel the same way no matter how many times I watch this episode. His performance throughout is flawless, and I thought he was particularly good in the scene with Prof. Fine where he's trying to remember whether or not he attended class or not, and in the scene in the mansion where he's choking Lana, his delivery of "I loved you more than anything, and you betrayed me just like everyone else."

4) Transference -  I couldn't have predicted how well Tom portraying Clark in Lionel's body was going to turn out, and it was another tour de force from him. He did John Glover's portrayal of Lionel justice and then some. His mannerisms were dead on. I truly believed that Lionel Luthor was in that body, and to me, that was part of the episode's success with the fans.

5) Labyrinth - Okay, to me the sole reason to watch this episode is because of TW's acting. When I want to watch an episode with someone who is on his A game the *entire* episode, this is it. The scene that always gets me is the one where he's looking around at all the different things in the room, slowly believing that he's losing his mind, and then jumps up from the fake green K and slumps onto the wall. It's a great scene, and he did an awesome job throughout the episode.
