Ever since I was shot in Detroit, i've been having flashes of things I've forgotten" -- I have to admit that this does make me a bit excited because it really does make me wonder if they're going to have Lex remember what he saw Clark do in "Shattered". I do believe that by the end of this show, Lex will know who Clark really is.
It’d be spectacular if that is how it plays out.
Another part of the Veritas storyline that I love the idea that everyone was destined to be there that day in Smallville. Even though I think it would've made previous seasons' storylines more logical had we already known about Veritas, I think it'll be interesting to rewatch the entire show knowing what we know now. It does add an interesting layer to the story and puts a twist on things we know or thought we knew.
It makes me almost want to brave S4 again. I do like this new plot twist. I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but the more I think about it, I think it’s a cool concept for the very fact that it makes all of these seemingly innocuous plots and characters important. We’re actually getting a payoff from S4.
Lionel was clearly coming apart and acting totally desperate, yet Chloe still didn't believe him. Lionel thinks he's redeemed because he has supposedly faced his past sins and now begs for forgiveness. However, I just don't buy it. If Lionel truly felt guilty about his misdeeds throughout his life, he'd admit that he was a terrible father to Lex, a bad husband to Lillian, and a ruthless killer. I don't think Lionel can atone for his sins unless until he admits his wrongdoings.
I bet Lionel doesn’t even think those wrongs are that important. He has really put Clark above his own son, so I think he’s only sorry for things that he feels matters to Clark. What it boils down to is that he really only wants Clark’s forgiveness.
First of all, I'd like to say this: I don't understand why Clark is never allowed to be happy and is constantly kicked in the teeth by this show. And this season? It's totally off the charts…..I don't understand the need to make Clark's life so absolutely painful. It amazes me that he has completely broken down already. I can't help but feel so sorry for him when it just continually seems like he just can't win no matter what he does.
I know struggles are to be character builders, but damn at this rate Clark has character coming out of his ears.
My concern is if all of this tsuris is what makes him “become” Superman, how does keep from being resentful. Because if he’s operating on the idea that if he doesn’t become this persona people he love will continue to be harmed he is then becoming Superman by coercion and not by choice. I don’t think I want a Superman who is only a crusader because he doesn’t want to deal with a personal life fraught with heartbreak. I want a Superman who dons the uniform because he wants to cement his dedication to fighting the good fight. I hate the idea of Clark going to the Fortress beaten down and distraught.
And yes, I know some actually complained about Clark grieving for Lana and wondering why won't he just move on. And all I can say is this: That just isn't Clark. It's not Clark to just give up on Lana (or anyone, for that matter) and immediately pick and move on. No matter what we might want a particular character to do, we can't just expect that character to stop acting like himself/herself because of that. They have to remain truth to who they are.
That would be a completely OOC (ok, except when Alicia died and he was playing football the next week :) ). But just give up on Lana? Would that make him a good person in people’s eye? It’s odd to me that people would want to sacrifice all of what we know of Clark just to spite Lana.

I'm looking forward to rewatching s4 this week. I want to see what I can pick up on now, and if anything becomes clear in retrospect. Hopefully, it will.

I agree. I also think he's scared that he's lost "the traveler" after being so close.

You know, I'd never even considered that. That's a very good point. I want to see Clark choosing to become Superman because it's his desire to help people out of the goodness of his heart. Not because he feels he owes it to them, or he's afraid of what might not happen if he doesn't.

:). I don't understand the idea of characters not acting like themselves to accomodate other people at all. They have their own internal logic they must follow.
