I don't hate the Cubs like I did when I was a kid, I just feel sorry for them now. I really did want to see them win at least one game or at least put up a fight against the opposing team, or at least show the slightest bit of interest or at leastswing at some strikes and not swing and some balls. I really do want to see them succeed once, so their poor fans can enjoy some small sense of accomplishment. Just the novelty of seeing them win a World Series in my lifetime (or my 81 year old grandfather's lifetime) would have a certain amount of entertainment value to it. No, it's not true that any team can have a bad century, because many teams aren't old enough to and the others respect their fans enough to win when it counts. No other professional sports team in any sport in the world has gone 100 years without winning a title. It's a record only The Cubs have and porbably will always have.
I would not blame the franchise one bit if they decide to fold the team out of embarrassment and respect for their loyal fans and sell Wrigley Field to a AAA minor league team, since that's pretty much all that plays there right now. I'm saying all this and I am a White Sox fan (big surprise.) I'm a fan of a team who, yes, went a long time without winning a World Series title, but at least always put up a fight and were somewhat entertaining to watch, yet get treated like the red-headed step-child of Chicago. It astounds me that the north side losers have so many more fans than the working class, blue-collar team from the south who always put on a good show. I ask all you loyal Cubs fans to consider coming over to the dark (south) side and try it for a season. You just might like what you see.
Here's a bit of Chicago baseball history that I bet millions of Cubs fans weren't aware of: The Cubs used to be called the White Stockings from 1871-1889 before it was changed to The Colts, then The Cubs. In 1900, the new White Stockings were formed across town and are now known as The White Sox. So if you truly respect the Cubs history, you should also be a Sox fan, but since the Cubs suck and always let millions of fans down on a consistant basis, it's morally forgivable to decide to only like the Sox.
Come on!! isn't a century of misery and diapointment enough already!? Just something to think about.
