I have yet to comment in my journal about the idiocy of District 150 in Peoria. For anyone who's not aware, they're thinking of closing one of the high school's and it's likely to be either Woodruff or Central which is downright stupid. This article explains the situation a little and offers an argument to close Manual instead ( Read more... )

Sure, there's no doubt that school pride is a ridiculous argument for keeping a school open, but public safety is not. It's no secret that gangs are very territorial and when a southside gang has to be absorbed with an Averyville gang, bad things can happen. If there's tension, then gang fights can occurr that can cause harm to people in the community. If they get along & join up, then one gang is twice as big and that can cause harm to people in a community. No one should be lying to themselves and pretending like this wont happen. It's going to be a public nightmare if they close one of these schools. Mark my word.

Many of them were good people, but some of them were not and those some poorly influenced other bad elements in that area and the bad elements got worse and some of them clashed. Many of those kids were attending Von Stueben middle school, then Woodfuff. In the last 5-8 years my parents area has ( ... )
