Since I'm guessing most uninvolved people don't necessarily follow my plotting on Plurk-- Azula has recently become a novice sister of the Trinity Blood world's Vatican, and is training to be an agent of the AX Division of the Vatican's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If this revelation is making you go "WTF?" and wonder about the sanity of the player(s) putting this plot in motion, read on! I've answered a few questions under the cut, and am definitely willing to answer any more that people might have.
Azula isn't Catholic. Why is she joining the Vatican?
In Trinity Blood, the Vatican has become one of the major world powers. It's still a religious organization, but it's also a governmental one, and there are plenty of workers who aren't religious themselves. Azula will be working for Cardinal Caterina Sforza, and AX is a highly secretive organization that was started to broker peace between the humans and the Methuselah (vampires) and fight the Rosenkreuz Orden, which seeks to start another apocalypse and possibly end the world all together.
Why the hell would she care about all that? What about the Fire Nation?
Azula had quite a few run-ins with the head of the Rosenkreuz Orden (Cain Knightlord, also known as "The Contra Mundi" or-- to a select few-- "01") when he was on the community. He badly hurt both of her Most Important People, is still actively trying to kill one of them, and has made continued threats towards the other-- and considering the breadth of his power and willingness/ability to follow through with his threats, he's been her "target #1" for a while now, despite the fact that he's OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAND times stronger than she is. At this point in DDD canon, Azula is at least somewhat aware of the fact that she was (and still is, really) not in a good enough place mentally and emotionally to be able to run the Fire Nation on her own. She's still in no way supportive of Zuko being on the throne and she fully intends to eventually go back and restart the war, but lately, she's been more focused on stopping Cain. A large part of her believes that killing him will give her the strength to take back her country and conquer her world once and for all.
Okay, fine, but why would AX want her?
To make her stop causing trouble by going after Cain on her own. There's canon precedence for Caterina to offer jobs to even the most unlikely candidates, including criminals and assassins who have tried to kill her. As Rose (Caterina's former player) put it in her app, "she takes in the broken and beaten, giving them new lives as her agents". Azula's still a kickass fighter, and most AX agents have some sort of unusual power or skill-- Azula's firebending would fit that.
So does Trinity Blood have fire users as well? If not, won't everybody know there's something weird about her?
It does! Trinity Blood has witches-- descendants of genetically modified humans that are pyrokinetic, among other things. It's up to Rose and Setine (who plays Abel Nightroad, another AX agent) how many people will be aware that she's really from another world, but those who don't know will probably just be told that she's a witch.
Is it really IC for Azula to wear something like
this (manip done for the lulz by
lylith_st)?
Only in
How I Became Yours. Not really, no. But it's the required uniform for novice sisters, and she won't be able to trade up for something cooler until she's finished with her training (which will probably take about five or six months). She's not happy about it, but it's definitely not important enough to be a deal-breaker, either.
