DAY 2
woke up at 10am. amy made a delightful breakfast.
we didnt get started un till about 4pm. kyle, greg and i pushed a few more tunes out. it was the last day the three of us could record so we built up to 6 songs.
after pushing past our goal time of 10pm, we met andy at the liberty bar in pontiac at about 11pm. the ride there was like a roller coaster ride through memory lane. the liberty is, after all, on the street where we first started playing live together.
tuesday nights are open mic nights. right when we showed up, greg played some 5Y2L classics. he lost it on "light of the stars" once or twice. the song has so many lyrics, it was hard for me to remember all the verses when i would played the damn thing. i kept yelling medicine anyway. he agreed and went right in to it. a nice set i would say.
greg came back to the table and knocked his drink back to catch up with the rest of us. we all hit a buzz point and began smokin the cigars again. kyle jumped up to the mic and picked up a gee-fiddle. surprised me with a bit of "strait to hell". hes come a ways from teen punker to musician pretty well id say.
as i thought might happen, i was called up to the mic to play "louie, louie". the last time i played that song was back in 02 over at the blue note. he caught me at the right time, what with the beers and all. i torked up some over drive on the house fiddle and tore into it, pullin the same old school tricks. "are they gonna end the fucking song?" NO!!! probably clocked a 12 min run on that song.
greg and i headed back to his place around 2am or so and hit the fucking hay.
it was the best fuckin time ive had in ages.
DAY 3
woke up late and rushed over to kyle's. didnt do any dubbing like we planned, but when andy came over, me and him pushed out three more tracks. greg went to the dentist. i was on skins and andy was on fiddle this time. we did great jams once through each, when the worst part of the recording sessions happened...
my drums did not get recorded. i had some great fills in there that, because im not a drummer, could not be repeated. i all ready hurt my self once around. we did all three tracks again (sans awesome fills) that turned out real well. puttin us up to 8 songs. 14 tracks (multiple takes).
i packed up the buick and we all met at greg's for some photos. you can see em at the myspace greg will be puttin up. i then headed west towards the sun, and towards home.
i miss detroit, my band, and my friends. it was good to see em for the bit of time we all had. we will be doin this a few times a year if all goes well.
