Concrete progress...

As a longtime listener and admirer of "Car Talk," I can never resist a good pun. Or a bad one.

The photos tell the story. Yesterday, just ahead of a mini-cloudburst, in tropical heat and humidity, the concrete was poured yesterday for the footings, which (to the unitiated) are the parts of the foundation that go around the edges, and go way deeper than the rest of the foundation. They make me think of walls that are mirror images of the walls above ground. I didn't know what they were until we built a garage in Lowell, because in my era, girls had Home Ec and boys had Shop in school:).

This is a closeup of the concrete, which received an interesting finish due to the brief rainfall right after it was smoothed on top. No structural harm done.

They were back at the crack of dawn today to put up forms for the next stage--foundation walls. This is a basement, so naturally the foundation isn't short. This is the concrete coming down the chute from the truck.

And this is just a shot of how it looked going into the forms.
