Time for the happy dance!

We have met Shayne (I was misspelling it) and her current human family. They are all delightful--Barbara and Ralph are late sixties, I'd say, and having some physical challenges (which is what prompts the downsizing of the canine contingent), but are cheerful and charming company. We had a nice visit with them at their house (an upgraded expanded "beach cottage" on a local lake--literally steps from the shore) and chatted about everything from German Shepherds to the films of Ken Burns. I told Barbara we would love to be Shayne's new family, but they were more than welcome to stop by and have a look at our house and property (this was well along in the visit), and she smiled a big smile and said, "That won't be necessary. We can tell that you 'get it' about German Shepherds." Shayne is every bit as friendly and nice a dog as everyone has said. And naturally I am biased, but I think, even with the flippy ears, she's gorgeous--a classic black and tan.

I'd have loved to bring her home ASAP, but we'll be away a few days in D.C. helping Jared pack up and clean their apartment. So it will have to be next weekend. But it's so exciting to anticipate!
