Last night was another milestone in my life and it was a good milestone too: I hosted my first dinner party for three of my girlfriends. I have to admit, I wouldn’t have normally done such a thing as I believe dinner parties are for the middle class, Nigella Lawson-loving bunch of bobos (the French for upper-class bohemians). What was first meant to be a simple night out with the girls turned into a grown up dinner party due to the fact that I had to walk the dog that way after work. So after much unnecessary panicking, I managed to cajole the girls into coming to the house with the promise of free food cooked by yours truly.
Knowing I would be busy with lots that day having to juggle my job and walking and feeding both the dog and cat on top of cooking for four, a simple recipe which allowed me to basically bung in all the ingredients and slow cook for an hour was a no brainer. So for my Nigella Lawson-esque dinner, it was French country all the way…well sort of; chicken connoisseur with mash potatoes and French salad. This is accompanied by lots of wine and naughty deserts provided by the girls, of course. So apart from The Dog trying to jump on everyone and fighting with The Cat, I’m quite proud of how my first dinner party turned out. Now for a Jamie Oliver-esque dinner party…
