Well I just learned that getting to my special talk tomorrow involves taking a tram out to the South of Amsterdam to Free University. It sounds doable. I guess this will let me see a different part of town. I have also learned that some of my friends arrived today (I was told everyone was arriving tomorrow) so I could be palling around with them if I were not giving a talk. Well, I hope the talk will be interesting. Apparently the issue of "racial disparities" is heating up in the Netherlands, because apparently most of the people in the Dutch prisons are Moroccan and some other ethnicity, I forget which. The Dutch don't collect data on race or ethnicity because, it is said, this would cause discrimination. (!) So it could be we'll have an interesting talk and discussion. On the other hand, it is also possible that no one will come and I will have wasted my time preparing the special talk (which was only scheduled and announced a week ago, and I'm not a "name" here.)
I have learned that the rest of the events of the conference will be at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science building which is close to the hotel -- I found it while walking around yesterday.
