Of course she made him no promises. But that doesn't help, does it, when he made them instead in his heart?
Lovely images of sea and sky, and I particularly like the opening bits with all the places they aren't imprisoned -- that's my Jack all right! So clever and facile, even when he's hurting. I also love that he's lurking on the forward hatch cover again.
You know, looking at Of course if he wanted to sleep he could go into the cabin and collapse into blankets, wake before the dogwatches with his boots still on and the sky still there, and everything still except for all the things that can't be, if they want to survive your sentence structure sounds like me. That's the way I would say that. It's kind of wierd. Like looking at something I might have written in my sleep.

It doesn't, and perhaps it's worse for him that she didn't, that he thought she didn't need to.

I like the forward hatch cover... though I think I need to come up with some new places for people to sit on the Pearl. It's either there or the quarterdeck steps.
Like looking at something I might have written in my sleep.
*g* Well I've spent a fair amount of my holiday reading your original fic, so I think I may be somewhat under the influence! (I dread to think what might have happened if I'd been writing when I first read something like 'A Clockwork Orange'... that book completely ate my brain).
Thank you so much!

Perfect blend of your lovely voice and Dylan Thomas. Loved this, as always.

My very favorite of my favorite lines had to be "Are you sure?" It was hard to tell, a fair way down the bottle, but he hoped that 'sure' conveyed the right amount of because-soon-I-probably-won't-be-able-to-stop and you'd-better-not-go-back-to-bloody-William-after and a lot of other things that it might be useful to say but he had lost the right words for somewhere in the haze of the evening. He seemed to be losing a lot of things, here and there like flotsam in the wake she'd left, but damned if he would let it stop him.
You have a great way with words.... Oh, Jack indeed!
Bravo!
