The Commissions Post:

Hi! This is the place to commission something that is not a cute, tiny anything t-shirt (to do that, go here). This post is a bit more flexible, basically, you ask me, “Can you do this?” and I’ll tell you. These commissions are not subject to the order limit on the t-shirts because I don't expect too many orders here and because I don't have to (or can't) order any of these things in bulk.

Possibilities include but are not limited to:

--Digital art: an icon-sized chibi (suitable for lj) of you, your characters, your children, animals/mythical beasts, or characters not under copyright.
--Digital art: a larger piece, chibi or not, of the same. Can be suitable for printing.

--A larger design painted onto a t-shirt.
--A different article of clothing--pants, perhaps a sweatshirt (I’m not sure what I have access to--at least not cheaply--so we’ll see).

--One finished, dinosaur stencil shirt on a gray ladies medium.

A piece of digital art, including icon-sized chibis

Pricing for this is very dependant on what you want me to draw. Drop me a comment with what you’re thinking of, and I’ll give you an estimate. For the moment, I don’t feel comfortable selling fanart in this format, even the kind with plausible deniability. But original characters or you or your relatives/friends or classic characters whose copyright has died off, etc, are fair game. You can see examples of my art here.

I’m offering a digital image (a .jpg file), not a physical print. If you want a file you can print off, I will make you a higher resolution jpeg--though this will effectively mean commissioning a larger picture from me. You can then print that file yourself or take it to someplace with a fancier printer/paper.

A livejournal icon-sized chibi: $5
A (full color) chibi of yourself or your character or something else not under copyright, like Mr. Darcy or your cat (possibly also named Mr. Darcy) or a generic sorceress.

A black and white line drawing of a character that fits easily on a computer screen: $10
About 500 pixels tall, no background, can be chibi or a regularly proportioned image. About the size of most of the fanart I post to lj. To add a second character: $6.

A full color image of a character that fits easily on a computer screen: $15
About 500 pixels tall, full color, no background, can be chibi or a regularly proportioned image. About the size of most of the fanart I post to lj. To add a second character: $10.

Pictures with a background/more than one character/pictures with high enough resolution to print well/things generally more complicated: Please comment.

Larger designs
The tiny animal designs are about 1-3" wide. Yes, they are little. Would you like to commission something bigger? Unlike digital art, I will paint questionably fannish stuff onto clothing so long as it's not identifiable by brand (scruffy elven guys ok, stargates not ok).

The best way to find out the price is to comment with a basic idea of what you think you want, and I’ll give you an estimate of the price.

Since bigger means more time and (a lot of) paint, they get expensive quickly. But a stenciled design rather than one painted freehand is a little easier to do and therefore less expensive, even for big ones. Some designs are easier than others, too.

Here's a generalized guess at prices. Hand-painting a larger picture with the same level of detail as the tiny animal shirts is the most difficult, and you’d get a pricing range sort of like this:

1. The design fits into a 4-5” box--about $25-30.
2. Anything between the former and latter--about $35-45.
3. Fits into 7-8”--about $50.
4. The design takes up the whole front (or back--like a pair of wings), that could take me anywhere from five to seven hours--$70+, depending on the size of the shirt.

But you might want some little things spread out, or a scene between characters, or something on both the front and back, so drop me a comment and ask me about it. I’d be happy to answer. Price is based on how long it would take me to complete.

If you’re looking for a stenciled design--or possibly something very simplified--the price will depend heavily on what you’re looking for. But to give you an idea, a large design made from stencils might be closer to $50-60 than $70.

Pants/Sweatshirt/something else

I love paint-covered jeans, so I’d be more than happy to make you a pair (though probably less schizophrenic than mine). Since jean sizing is a little whacko, the best solution is to have you ship me a pair you already own (this means you have to pay shipping twice, but you don't have to pay the price of a blank pair of jeans). Unlike digital art, I will paint questionably fannish stuff onto clothing so long as it's not identifiable by brand (scruffy elven guys ok, stargates not ok).

Pricing would be similar to larger shirt designs, but without the cost of the blank. Also, jean art is usually simpler--the fabric’s rougher, so less detail, and I’m more about the “BWAHA, PAINT!” Basically, how covered do you want your jeans?

One smallish design: $12
A larger design accenting one part of the jean (say, one hip): $20-35
Two larger designs accenting more than one part of the jean (say, one hip and an ankle/shin): $35-40
Cover ‘em: $50

As for sweatshirts or other articles of the not-t-shirt variety, I’m not sure what I have access to (at least not cheaply), but feel free to ask!

Finished shirt for sale

This is the first example of a new stencil I made because I love dinosaurs and because fire-breathing is a lot like wings--it can make anything better.
The shirt is a ladies medium, American Apparel girly tee (note that these shirts run a little small).

How to pay: Leave a comment to this entry with your order and your email address. In the case of commissions without a set price, comment telling me what you're thinking of, and I'll reply with more questions or with a price. If you agree to it, I'll send you an email with a paypal link to pay for the shirt. You'll also give me your shipping address through that paypal link.

If you'd like to discuss any part of your commission privately, my email address is pentapoda [at] gmail.com. Comments here are unscreened.

You do not need a paypal account to pay using paypal. If you can't pay by credit card (paypal also lets you transfer funds from your bank account, but I'm not sure how this works), and you'd still like a t-shirt, we can discuss alternative payment methods.
