I have started looking for a new bed. It's a slow process and one that
I want to take care in doing. I'm going to need a new frame and
mattresses because I'm upgrading to a queen sized bed. This major
decision is the one that sparked today's interesting encounter. It was
after dinner and we were driving by a furniture store. I suggested that
we go look at beds. (For some things in life, it is best to shop around
and choose with care.) We walked in and immediately a sales person
finds us. It's as though they wait in the center of the main entrance
and wait to pounce - just like a car lot. I have never been one that
enjoys pushy sales people. I politely told the sales person that we
were there just to look at beds and that we weren't intersted in
actually buying one today. She offered to show me their specials and
led me to a side corner where their specials were. She showed me a few
and gave her opinion of their mattresses as well. I listened politely
and looked at things. After showing me the sale beds, she said she'd
let us look around a while and to find her if we needed anything. I had
my parents with me (we had just eaten dinner together) and my mother
asked her if the back area had beds as well. Her response was that
those were mostly mattresses but there were beds back there, but they
were the ones out of my price range. (Mind you - I never told her a
price range.) I told her we were going to look around and headed to do
just that. I told my parents her comment and the fact that I had never
given a price range. They both had their own opinions, as I'm sure you
can imagine. We headed to the back and looked at the beds anyways.
Having no set price range, I can't say if they were or weren't out of
my price range. I can tell you one thing about this experience - that
is a furniture store that has likely lost my business. It certainly is
a sales person that I would not want to deal with again. The lesson in
this story? Never assume anything. It doesn't help you sell things. With
love,Pam
