Name: Kirpet
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Location: SWFL / Chicago
Language: English
About Me: I’m a full time art student at SAIC (junior) working towards my BFA with VCS Thesis (will be applying to Yale for my MFA in under a year!). So I spend the spring and fall months in Chicago and go back home to SWFL during winter and spring, so my address will switch back and forth throughout the year.
I talk about art a lot mainly conceptual, not illustration/mainstream art (not trying to sound “hip” just being honest) and my job at The Bob Rauschenberg Gallery. I love artists like Ann Hamilton, Keith Edmier, Noelle Mason, Lucy Orta,, Dave Muller, etc. I work in the fiber, sculpture and performance departments and I’m starting Intro to Sound next semester.
I have PTSD from a shitty childhood, sexual abuse and the like, and these are topics I like to talk about from time to time. My research and artwork deals a lot with personal trauma, finding comfort and understanding the world. So if talking about abuse, self-analysis, pedophiles and society is triggering for you it’s probably best we not be pen friends.
Music: My taste is all over the map. In the past few months I’ve been to a local blues club, saw Joe Bonamassa (for a second time) and am going to see The Psychedelic Furs Saturday evening. I also love David Bowie, The Ramones, The Goo Goo Dolls (Superstar Carwash-Gutterflower), Kraftwerk, Penguin Café Orchestra, 90’s country. I also like musicals i.e Hamilton, Sweeney Todd, Hairspray, Les Miserables, etc.
Films: Again all over the map. Animated kids movies, anime, documentaries, fantasies, musicals, etc. (currently watching/listening to Mary & Max for the umpteenth time).
TV Shows: I don’t really watch TV shows unless they’re available to stream online. Currently loving the Netflix series Gourmet Samurai also watching Transparent, West Wing, Frankie and Grace, Troll Hunter, love People of Earth too.
Books: Again I’m all over the place. The books currently within reach of me are: Haddon Hall When David Invented Bowie, Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home and Are You My Mother? Instrumental A Memoir of Madness, Medication and Music, Lucy Orta Body Architecture, Keith Edmier January 11 - February 28, 1997 and Graphicstudio Uncommon Practice USF, along with a handful of interviews.
Anime: The three I remember finishing and loving over the last year or so are: Orange, Silver Spoon and Psycho-Pass. Studio Ghibli is always on reply and Shin Chan is always there for a laugh and of course I’ve enjoyed classics such as Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Ghost in the Shell, etc.
Interesting Facts:
I have quite a few, being in art school they just keep racking up, lol.
