Wanna Write with Me?

Name: Kristina
Sex: Female
Age: 30
Location: Suburbs of Chicago, Il USA
Education: Completed my B.A. in English and hopefully beginning grad school soon to become a Research Librarian.
Occupation: Library Clerk at a major University Library.
Relationship Status: Single

About me: I’m an open minded and straight-forward person. I love books, research, and pretty much all things nerdy…except math. Math and I hate each other pretty hard-core. For the past 2 years I’ve been really involved in researching/recovering a widely forgotten deaf female authoress from the 1860’s; what started as a class project became a personal and passionate endeavor that I eventually intend to have published.
Interests: I love to read, write, and engage in various artistic mediums (like drawing and painting.) Most of my hobbies are “old-lady” activities; I l crochet, bake, and garden (even though I hate bugs!) I have cats which I love like children. I’ve always had a soft spot for animals, and grew-up in a household where pets are considered a part of the family not just some animal that happens to live with you. I collect books and Harry Potter items. I also impulsively buy journals; what can I say, I love pretty paper!

Books/Writers: There are far too many to list them all, and I have a really hard time remembering everything that I’ve read and liked, but here’s a try... Harry Potter, Hitchhikers Guide, Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking-Glass, Little Women, almost anything by Orson Scott Card especially Enders Game, I’m not a fan of Twilight at all but sadly I have read them. I’ve just started reading Sherlock Holmes. I’ll also admit I read a lot of stuff over at fanfiction.net, when I find characters I like in books/TV/movies, I’ll follow them across mediums and read them in fan fiction.

TV/Film: I follow Switched at Birth, Grey’s Anatomy, and Criminal Minds (love Dr. Reid.) Recently I have started to watch Dr. Who on Netflix. Family Guy, Dead Like Me, Daria, Roseanne, and the Daily Show never fail to entertain either. As for movies I love films that make me think, laugh, or cry. You know, the types of movies that your friends and you stay up till the wee hours of the morning talking about. I also really enjoy scary movies, but there haven’t been too many good ones in the past ten years or so. Some of my favorite movies are: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Super Troopers, Repo the Genetic Opera, South Park, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, and a lot of old-school Disney.

Music: Such a huge variety that I cannot possibly get into it. I’m not big on concerts or hanging out on the music scene; I just like what I like. A lot of musicals and vocalists. I love to dance, so anything with a great beat I can listen to regardless of lyrics or genre. Soundtracks and original scores. Really, my musical tastes are all over the place. The only things I usually cannot stand are country and whiney college rock.

I’m Looking For: Either women or men between the ages of 20-35 for snail-mail (I love to use stationary and exchange photograph and little things that mean something, like school emblems or something that is a well-known cultural representation of a holiday, like pictures of Jack-o-lanterns.) I primarily want to write to people from outside of the U.S., as I love learning about cultural differences and meeting people from different backgrounds than my own. However I’m willing to write from anyone, anywhere who’s deaf or hard of hearing. I’m hard of hearing and I wear hearing-aids. I hate phrasing it like that because it’s a significant amount of hearing loss, but between my age and my speech people don’t realize how “hard of hearing” I really am, or worse, think I’m joking. It would be fantastic to write to someone who ‘gets it’ and understands the little things that normal hearing people don’t. The library job I just started has a lot of downtime in which I do not have access to the internet, so it allows me a lot of time for handwritten letters. So if you’ve read this and thought, ‘I could get along with this girl’ or ‘we have a lot in common’ then by all means contact me and we can get started with the fun part of exchanging letters and getting to know each other better.
Hope to hear from you soon. :D
