About Me: Well, I'm Scout and I'm a 19-year old living in Florida. When I was nine years old, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. She was very, very ill, but managed to hold on until early 2010. I am so proud to call her my mom and I miss her dearly. My dad is 91-years old and he suffers from Alzheimer's. I am his caretaker, which is a full-time job in its own way. Even though I graduated high school and began college at the age of sixteen, I have yet to complete any degree. It was hard for me to decide on a major that was both appealing and beneficial. As of right now, I am taking a break from college and bouncing through various temporary jobs to help support my dad. As far as my personality goes, I'm very talkative, friendly, and encouraging. I have plenty of flaws, though, as does any person. I'm emotional, sensitive, slightly pessimistic, and guarded. I love to make friends and form connections, but a fair warning: I take things quite personally sometimes. I am very sensitive and once I am offended, it is a little hard for me to warm up again.
Interests: Reading, writing, baking, crafts (specifically scrapbooking and stamping), video games.
Music: My "preference" in music is non-existent. I love to listen to everything from Ludacris to Taylor Swift to Nevershoutnever. Musical boundaries are nonexistent for me as I like to give everything a listen. I may not always have an immediate liking for it, but I always give it a chance.
Books: If it has words, I'll read it. My favorite series include Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. The Host by Stephenie Meyer is in my top five favorite novels of all-time. Usually, I am attracted by science fiction stories, as well as some horror. Ironically enough, though my favorite genre to write/read is science fiction and horror, I only just recently started reading H.P. Lovecraft.
Movies and TV: As far as movies go, I consider myself a big movie fan. I try to see quite a bit of movies, especially if they are based on books (love the challenge of rushing to read a book before the movie hits theaters). I really enjoy romance, comedy, thriller, horror, fantasy, science fiction, and documentaries. However, I'm not usually fond of movies with exceeding amounts of drama or action. When it comes to television, I admit that I watch quite a bit. Having Netflix, Hulu, and iTunes right at my fingertips is too convenient for my own good. Desperate Housewives, Terra Nova, The Walking Dead, The Big Bang Theory, Once Upon a Time, Grimm, The Lying Games, Ancient Aliens and the list goes on… Just please don't ask me to watch The Bachelor or Jersey Shore.
Pen Pal Info
How many pen pals do you have? I don't have any at the moment. When I was younger, I had a couple here and there. One of the girls I became pen pals with at the age of 8 is still one of my closest friends today. I think of her more as a "soul sister" than a pen pal.
How many do you want? Two or three to start, I suppose.
Do want email pals? Yes, please. I would actually prefer email and LiveJournal friends. It would also be lovely if I could find a pen pal interested in chatting on MSN or AIM.
Do you want snail-mail pen pals? If I can find someone I can really connect with, then I would love to send snail-mail or little handmade gifts. However, I am very cautious about exchanging addresses right from the beginning.
How long are your letters? It will vary on the topic at hand, but I like to have quite a few paragraphs written.
How long does it take you to reply to a letter? Unfortunately, I get very easily distracted. So, it's not uncommon for a response to take as long as 2-3 days. However, I will always respond and if for some reason life gets incredibly hectic, I will be sure to inform you ahead of time to expect a later-than-expected response.
Would you like your pen pal to be male or female? To be honest, I don't have a preference. Although, I would just like to say that I don't have a lot of friends in real life because females don't seem to mesh with me often and the opposite sex tries to, er, mesh for the wrong reasons. Ideally, I would like to find a true friend I can turn to with my problems and won't douse me with judgement.
Age? Around my age, preferably. I don't take age too seriously as it's just a number. It's how mature you are that really matters in the end.
What are you looking for in a pen pal? I'm looking for a pen pal who is interested in becoming friends. I'm going through a tough time in my life and it would be wonderful to have someone to talk to about everything (and nothing).
Where would you like them to be from? As long as they can speak English, it doesn't matter in the slightest. (:
I don't have any entries posted yet. When I created my journal, I was working 40+ hours a week between a night job and an evening waitressing job. Since then, my dad has progressed even farther, so now I spend my days at home with him dividing my time between caring for him, working around the house, and planning out what's to come in the future as much as I can. If you are interested in becoming my pen pal, please feel free to leave a comment here, send me a message, or post on my Friends Only entry on my journal. I look forward to meeting you!
