About Me:

My name is Sirena, though my online handle is Samara Raine. I'm twenty-four-years-old and I live in Port Saint Lucie Florida. Some of my hobbies include writing, reading, horseback riding, singing, acting, roleplaying, camping, rock climbing, swimming, canoeing and baking.

I am visually impaired and will be receiving my first guide dog from Guide Dogs For The Blind in June. I will be attending training at the San Rafael campus from June 27 until July 16.

I'm a writer, a singer, a sister and a daughter. I moved to Florida in November of 2009 and haven't looked back since.

"I have a visual impairment. It does not have me."

As someone whose lived my life gradually losing what sight I had when I was a child, I believe the above saying with all my heart. I thought it up one day and it's stayed with me ever since. I believe in equal rights for all people with disibilities, and it's my goal to make a difference in whatever community I may be a part of at the time.

My current goal is to assist in making braille menus accessible to the restaurants in my community that don't have them.

I'm a writer. When it comes to fanfiction, I'm a bit of a fandom recluse. I have my comfort zones and I rarely venture far from them. My most prominent fandoms are Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, though I've also been known to dabble in the terrifying world of Twilight and the wondrous worlds of Narnia and Prydain. I've also taken a shot at the insanely mystifying world of Alagaesia and the Dark Materials universe.

As for original fiction, I greatly enjoy both reading and writing fantasy, historical fantasy, modern fantasy, mythology/legends, mythological romance, romance, historical romance, Highland romance, supernatural and many other genres. The above are simply my favorites.

Authors I deeply respect include J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, Phyllip Pullman, Robin McKinley, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and Octavia Randolph.

Below is a list of my favorite books and series of all time. They're not in order of preference or anything, so don't look to me as a novel title ranking critic or something equally as weird. I'll admit I love Lord of the Rings above anything else, but that's all the favoritism I'll own up to.

  • The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
  • The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis
  • The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
  • Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas
  • Everlasting by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
  • The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
  • His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman
  • Rebellion by Nora Roberts
  • The Circle of Ceridwen by Octavia Randolph

Harry Potter and The Inheritance Cycle have their good points, but, in my opinion, they were series' that started out with promise and fell down the chute of plot holey crappiness over time. I'll always adore them (what does that say about my sanity?), and they'll never leave my fanfic repertoire, but they hold more eye-rolling disappointment than fascination for me to ever consider allowing them back into my booky faves.

When it comes to music, I'm also a bit of a recluse. I adore country, oldies, showtunes, Disney music (hey, it's good) and some spiritual tunes. I love Scottish and Irish music as well. I do enjoy some pop and other music, though I don't listen to it often. I'm always open to being introduced to new music. I'm not promising to fall madly in love with it, but I do enjoy listening and I'll try anything at least once.

My favorite movies include the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I also enjoy some other movies such as The Others, Moulan Rouge, Avitar (2009), Loch Ness, Stepmom, Toy story, Shrek, Ella Enchanted, Land Before Time, Harry Potter and many many others that I can't think of at the moment. I've got a few I think I'll really enjoy on my computer now, but I haven't watched them yet, so I can't say whether or not they'll make it into my faves. Or my mention list at least.

TV: Supernatural, Law and Order, Law and Order SVU, Ghost Whisperer, Super Nanny, Charmed, ABC Family, The Movie Channel

Penpal Info:

How many penpals do you have? None
How many do you want? Between three to five would be nice.
Do you want e-mail pals?: Yes please
Do you want snailmail penpals?: I do, though that might be a bit difficult seeing as how I can't read print. If it's typed, I could scan it and read it that way and I could always exchange cassette tapes of speech, though I know many people aren't into that. But I do love sending and receiving things VIA mail. So I'll say yes.
How long are your letters?: Depending on how much I have to say, they can range from a page to 3/5 pages. But they probably will not get that long often. If we're exchanging cassettes, probably one side depending on how much time's on the cassette. Never more than two. Same goes with exchanging CD's. No more than one CD, and probably not album length either.
How long does it take you to reply to a letter?" Probably about a week tops. Keep in mind I need to scan or have someone read my letter for me, then get it sent out. But I'll reply within a week. E-mail penpals will probably get replies much much sooner. *smiles*
Would you like your penpal to be male or female?" Either or.
Age: Sixteen and older, please.
What are you looking for in a pen pal?: Someone whose comfortable in their skin, has a sense of humor, knows how to have fun, knows how to be silly, someone I can have intelligent, meaningful conversations with, interesting, similar interests would be awesome and someone whose not afraid to just be themselves.
Where would you like them to be from?" Anywhere. United States is great, but I also love Scotland, New Zealand, Grece, Italy, Egypt, etc. All I ask is that you can speak english well and have some sense of spelling and grammar. You don't need to be a novelist, but please don't use netspeak or write like a two-year-old. *smiles gently*

Well, that is all. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
