On a cold, rainy night, Katrina* was tucked into bed, all nice and warm, reading a book. She was hoping to fall asleep soon, as she had to be up for work early in the morning, but she'd had an early dinner, and was starting to feel hungry.
Kate didn't want to get out of her warm bed and walk all the way to the kitchen. She'd had a long day, and it was just so warm and comfortable under the duvet... She figured she could ignore it. She was going to be asleep soon enough anyway.
But 20 minutes later, she was still awake, and very much hungry. Her stomach was starting to hurt. Kate had no choice but to throw back the duvet and embark on her quest for nourishment.
On her way to the kitchen, Kate cut through the living room, where her sister, Kristina*, had sunk into the sofa with her laptop. Desperate to get back to the comfort of her foam mattress and down feather duvet, Kate grabbed the first edible item she found, a small piece of choc chip brioche bread. Munching happily, she climbed back into bed, and returned to her book.
Unfortunately, the little brioche bread only pacified her stomach for a little while. An hour later, still awake, her stomach began to rumble once again. Having had to face the cold once already, Kate was dismayed at the prospect of have to repeat such feat. But she was hungry. Did she really have to leave the warmth of her bed yet again that night?
Spying her phone on her night stand, Kate had an idea. Kristy was in the living room. The living room was right next to the kitchen. Smiling, Kate grabbed her phone and typed out a message:
Bring me some food.
She waited until she heard the familiar double ping of Kristy's phone, telling her the message had been received. Then she hit resend.
Bring me some food.
Double ping.
Bring me some food.
Double ping.
Bring me some food.
Double ping.
Bring me some food.
Double ping.
Before she could hit resend for the fifth time, a reply from Kristy arrived:
There is no food.
Kate considered that for a moment. And then hit resend one more time.
Bring me some food.
Double ping.
Bring me some food.
Double ping.
She heard hurried footsteps coming towards her bedroom, and shortly after, Kristy opened the door, threw the bag of choc chip brioche pieces at Kate and said: "stop texting me."
Kate put the phone down, picked up her book, and munched away.
Hey, it worked didn't it?
True story.
