So I decided to try something new and contribute to a Christmas charity this year. A girl I work with volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Ann Arbor and they are having an Adopt-A-Person program. Well, I talked to this guy who places the people/families with the donors and he said the gifts were in the $35-$40 price range and you could buy however many you want from the wish list. So I said sure, no problem, send me over a name and a list. Yesterday I received a fax containing three names and three lists (it was a mom and her two teenagers). Well, it appears their necessities they want for Christmas are an ipod, DVD player, full size mattress with complete bedding, REMOTE CAR STARTER, BMX Bike, and a microwave. Okay, so I hear microwaves are cheap now, but an ipod!! Or a Remote Car Starter?? I'm only one single lady on a limited budget here. Well, I felt bad about "rejecting" this family, but their requests were things that most people don't get for Christmas. It turns out that usually businesses donate large gifts to bigger families and somehow they thought I was a business. So now I am assigned to a senior citizen with affordable gift ideas. I love old people.
