... joy!
Just got back from Dell'Arte International's MFA callback weekend. What a trip!
All of the MFA applicants have been offered a slot in DAI's year-long Professional Training Program, which means that if I can swing it financially, I can begin training there in September! YAHOO! We should all find out whether or not we're in the MFA some time next week, which should give me about enough time to chew off all of my fingernails, and eat enormous quantities of cheese out of sheer anxiety.
A bit more about Dell'Arte's particulars: the PTP and the first year of the MFA program run concurrently, which means PTP students can apply to matriculate into the second year of the MFA in the spring. The MFA is, of course, the brass ring here, but will be thrilled to ally myself to this institution in whatever capacity. Seriously. If they need a new janitor, I'm there.
I spend a truly kickass weekend in Blue Lake meeting my fellow applicants, the faculty and administrative staff, current students (MFAs and otherwise,) and some colorful locals. Blue Lake is freak-me-out gorgeous, y'all. Tiny, and rural, and secluded, and sleepy, and charming as all hell.
AAAAAAAAAAAH, PASTORAL MAJESTY.
And the program. Hoo, doggy. Long story short, I would do terrible, despicable things for the chance to train there. In this case, "terrible, despicable things" may simply be limited to "shouldering some hefty debt for the next twenty-odd years of my life," but hey, we're in a recession. Debt is the new black.
Last weekend, I also auditioned at the Clown Conservatory in the city, which was lots of fun, and involved some juggling, some mando-playing, some imprompteau Arlechinno...ing, and some improv clown games with another applicant. Maybe an hour of silliness, and I was on cloud nine. Funny how little it takes to remind me how important and easy it is to get my head out of my ass and do things that make me happy from time to time.
Ah! Moving and shaking! More, please!
In other news, Georgia is in town from Cambridge for a week! YES. Going up to Ashland for Jordan's 30th birthday festivities! YES. Was struck by inspiration in the middle of a faculty Q&A session, now have a good idea of how to finish my new one-act. DOUBLE YES.
Love, critters. Allie, out.
P.S. IRS, if you are listening, you are cordially invited to sit and spin.
P.P.S. O WAIT TIME FOR MOAR PICTURES!!1!
Applicants from CT, NY, and Canada are reminded of what the sun feels like... and, a bunch of new friends at Moonstone Beach!
P.P.P.S. I promise this is the last thing, but if you are looking for a book to read, go out immediately and get a copy of Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. Read it. It is exquisite. K bye.
