Hey you! How are you doing these days? I should do posts like that more often if it makes you appear out of thin air! *lol* It's good to see you. :) The Vanessa Redgrave trip was wonderful, thank you. I am enjoying EJO on Dexter, but I think the season is lacking some focus - however, it makes sense as I'm 99,9 % sure now that Gellar is his young companion's dark passenger and not real. So Dexter can't not!interact with him until the finale. Those damn head characters... *sigh* I am enjoying Deb's arc very much, though! Downton Abbey...errrr...I really loved season 1, but I almost quit watching season 2, because it was just so bad (solely imo). The last two (post war) episodes were slightly better, but the only characters I still enjoyed watching at this point were Violet, Edith, Carson, Hughes and Mary's fianceé (her interactions with him are so much more interesting than the ones with Matthew). I wish I could motivate myself to watch the Christmas special. I also watched the 1st season of The Killing (American version) and loved it. I have rarely seen such a fine piece of television - writing, acting, visuals...brilliant.
*hugs* Deb's arc is one of my fave bits of Dexter this season too! I think the actor has really come into her own since S1 and I like that Deb is a different kind of female character. 99.95% :P sure that Gellar is who you say too, though I am quite tired of these head characters.. and I don't think they are ever as interesting or illuminate the main character's psyche as the creator wants them to be..so far, in my humble viewing experience.
Oh, I agree, S2 DA was laughably bad. Hard to take the war seriously with the way they did a lot of it. Stuff I rolled my eyes at: the Earl and you know who, Sybil/Branson (no idea why Sybil didn't just punch him in his self-righteous face or something so to speak instead of... kinda ruining Sybil for me), Matthew's miracle, endless repetition with Anna/Bates, to name a few. Thank God for Violet! :P But one snappy line or two does not make an episode make. ;) No idea what the writer was thinking...beyond his bank account ;), and no idea what he'll be doing if they stretch it on beyond S3.
Interesting what you say about The Killing (US). Having loved the Danish version, I was excited for the American one. But I stopped after ep 1 because I couldn't stop comparing it constantly (unfavourably) to the Danish one as almost every scene was the same and I didn't find it as compelling...I don't know if it was a case of first impressions being stronger. I think I found the Danish, more restrained cultural tone to it more interesting, and that was the case in the acting for me as well. Are you interested to give Forbrydelsen (Danish version) a watch? I think S1 is the best, though S2 is also quite good, and shorter. It has just started on the BBC with Eng subtitles. I read that The Killing got a huge (mostly neg) reaction with their finale (which I haven't watched). What did you think of how they ended it (no resolution, right)? Don't worry, you can't spoil me. Maybe I will revisit The Killing when it returns and see if I still feel the same. But I really hope you give Forbrydelsen a try sometime 'cause it is SUPERB. Heh, maybe we should do a parallel watch. :P
Have you watched Wallander (swedish or brit version)? Or Romanzo Criminale (Italian drama)? 2 new shows I am trying out: Revenge (entertaining, but very soapy), Homeland (well acted drama on terrorism).
