I came into LOM/A2A fandom around the time that S2 of A2A had just finished airing. Most fannish postings I saw at the time agreed (for the most part) with my own initial reaction --- that A2A was an inferior spin off of one of the most brilliant, original TV shows ever. The ending of LOM is truly sublime.
I enjoy A2A, but S1 and S2 seemed to be made just because the public wanted more of Gene Hunt (and who can blame them for that!?). Hunt in A2A wasn't the same Hunt in LOM though. He was toned down a lot, like a pit bull on a leash. lol.
It was only in S3 that A2A started to become a worthy successor to LOM, IMO. I have mixed feelings about the end of A2A too. On one hand, I like having answers about who/what Gene Hunt was. But at the same time, sometimes it's better not having things tied up in a neat little bow.... kinda like life in general.
I haven't been around on LJ much 'cause Real Life is kinda sucky. The last year has been a bad one for my whole family. Usually I use fandom as an escape, but I haven't even had time for LJ recently.... *sigh*
