new vid - Ashes to Ashes - "As I Come Clean"

A few weeks ago, I wasted money on a new shiny processor, but my comp still can't handle the extended version of my vidding program. So it's back to basics and outsmarting Pinnacle in an ongoing bloody virtual fist fight. I guess I'm lucky enough to be able to use avi files now and to cut their scenes without my screen freezing all the time. That ( Read more... )

This was the first musicvid by your hand that I saw before I saw the series or even was acquainted with the actors. It is a different experience. It has to be, as the layer that triggers recollections and atmospheres is missing - while musicvidding is an art form that (in part) uses hops from memory to memory to tickle the heart.

Amazingly, the vid held its own, and enticed me to follow its story, despite all that.
It was the subdued tone, your eye for details, your zooming into metaphors, seemingly unimportant but mind setting minutiae and surroundings, the way you followed the lyrics, that created a vid that can stand alone, a vid that has coherence in itself and transforms a not particularly attractive man and woman (sorry, no offense) into protagonists I started to care about. Especially the man. I may have to watch the series now, as I start to think he will be sexy, in a roughly handsome way. (The DVDs arrived a few weeks ago, but RL has intervened, so they are still in the box)

You did a remarkable thing with this vid, surpassing the need for fandom memories to create impact.

It could be you did it before, I don’t know. It’s impossible for me to tell, as BSG imagery is so ingrained in my brain I cannot watch it as a newcomer, an outsider.

*huggles you*

Thank you, hon. Your comment landed in my mailbox when I really needed to hear something nice. Thank you for taking the time to watch and for the lovely and detailed review and for spoiling yourself. I do feel sorry for the latter and really hope you will enjoy the show nonetheless. :o

It's interesting to hear how you perceived the vid as someone who had no idea about the actual show. Maybe it worked so well, because I had not much of an idea either when making it? *g*

*skooshes you*

I don't know that I am spoiled. For all I know this may be just as an accurate an depiction of A2A as your vid "Teacher's pet" was of the goings on in BSG.

Maybe it worked so well, because I had not much of an idea either when making it?
*tsks you*
Nah. Unlikely scenario.
Talent, me thinks. Just talent.

Hope things will look up for you soon.
