Oy, the flags.

I've watched The Closer previously too so I share your understanding of (and probably frustrations with) Brenda. Raydor as Brenda's 'pupil'? Didn't think to categorise it that way but it's an apt description. I too was annoyed with Brenda's 100% rightness here. No fun having an antagonist then. It is jarring not see Mary kicking ass when you know she would and could! They're not exactly making Raydor bad at her job, but Brenda's made to look more competent as her assumptions always turn out to be right.

And I wish they would at least have allowed Cpt. Raydor to actually do her job, with all its consequences - if she had failed then, I wouldn't mind.

Yes, well put. It didn't matter who was right or wrong in the end, but it felt like it was written in utter favour of Brenda and her team, if that makes sense. A serious look at the other side or further shades of grey were missing.

P.S.:

I preferred Brenda's attitude when she was still addicted to sweets... *LoL*

Wait. You are telling me she was NOT on a sugar high in this episode? Hm. Maybe withdrawal symptoms then?

Like you I missed the point of Raydor's appearance in the show. I mean, I did love how Mary was able to squeeze in a little hint of annoyance (e.g. when they left the car in that garage or in Pope's office) but that's because I enjoy her style and relate to her acting. Otherwise I missed something - suspense, I agree.

I really think Mary squeezed in a lot (in both episodes), given what she actually had to work with. So much that it was still interesting and entertaining to watch her. But I don't want to imagine this character in the hands of a worse actress. It would probably come across rather flat.
