And everybody will ask, what became of you?

Well, I've been terrible at posting; this I know. It's now week three, and things are already over-the-top hectic. I'm taking five classes this term, and I'm glad I didn't attempt anything else. My "Understanding Disney" class is, not surprisingly, pretty fluffy and actually pretty dull. My TV production class, where we produce an episode of Oregon News show every Friday morning, is brief but exciting. Only three hours of work a week, but a really intense three hours... I'll be assistant-directing the first episode and directing the second. Then my management class is... well, it has its interesting parts, but the group project is going to be a time-suck, for sure. Then there's my weekend lighting workshop, which I just spent the whole weekend doing and will be back at for one more day next Sunday (bummer, since I'm missing part of the Sunriver trip for it). But it's definitely been useful, so I'm not sorry to have taken it.

Finally, I have my Advanced TV Production class, which has, I've learned, been referred to as "the InfoHell of the EM major". (Speaking of, they're phasing out InfoHell now! LAME.) It's fun, it's creative, it's totally useful... but it's taught by someone who has trouble keeping track of everything going on, so... The projects for it were immediate and insane. I have 88 shots that I need to get, plus a music video and a "self-portrait" to shoot, all within the next few weeks. I'm completely overwhelmed, especially because I don't have any cooperative models or anyone helping me with production, which makes probably 60% of my exercises logistically impossible... I'm starring in my music video for exactly that reason (it's a Wuthering Heights-type thing set to Death Cab's "Cath...", by the way), but I'm sad to see soft focus in otherwise nice shots because I can't focus on myself. Anyway, oh well, I'll work it out somehow, I'm sure...

What else? Just some random stuff: some douche scratched up the tail end of my truck and the whole side of this other lady's car earlier this week in SRC parking, and seeing as I saw him do it, then drive away, I was able to take his license plate down and leave a note for that woman. Since she decided to press charges, I spent a portion of my Thursday talking to and meeting with the police, and now I guess I'm a witness in the case? I don't really know what that entails, but whatever, I guess I'm glad I said something.

Oh, guess I didn't mention, but I found a place to live here in Eugene, and it's pretty nice so far. My roommates are both really good people with really different personalities, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes. There's been a bit of houseguest drama already (and more to come, I suspect...), but it's been overall great so far.

Just made some peanut butter-chocolate blondies, and they're pretty delicious, although I think I'll definitely include the coconut next time, as the texture was a little off without it.

And an abbreviated Thankful Monday:

1) I'm thankful for my major, despite its continuing best efforts to destroy my life this term. The more time I spend around a camera, the more I know that this is the career for me. Who cares if years of watching too much TV has me thinking in shots and scenes? For once, I'm constantly inspired to create and to aim higher, get better. That's pretty exciting.

2) Tomorrow is Inauguration Day, and I still don't think the concept of Change has really, truly hit me. I'm not talking about the "Change We Can Believe In" kind of change, but the biggest Change of all: no more Bush. The fact that that man has been in charge for the entirety of my politically-aware life and now he's finally on his way out of power? That's incredible. But add on the fact that everything Obama represents and bring to the table is so different? That's a change I can be thankful for.
