Woof, I am warm. But, as I enjoy all the comfy clothes I'm wearing -- cozy Calvin Klein pajama bottoms, fuzzy slipper-socks, and the over-sized DMB shirt I picked up from Mitch at the AT&T booth on-campus today -- I'm hesitant to take anything off
Okay, there go the socks.
Anyway, I'm terrible at blogging lately, but I'm going to plead Shoddy Internet Access. Comcast just came out to install cable and internet today -- which is just peachy, since, beyond the fact that we still don't have a wireless router (Laura), our cable is tiling like crazy and there was nothing that our sorta-novice cable guy could do about it. I think I'll be making a sharply-worded phone call to customer service tomorrow (plus getting the NW Natural account changed over to our names and calling the landlord to see when he's actually planning on cashing those few billion-dollar checks I've given him in the past couple months).
My life is so dull.
So, as I mentioned, Sarah and I walked over to campus today to cull free goods from Freshman Move-In Day. Successful enough but maybe a bit disappointing compared to other years -- my favorite find this year was a plastic half-pint mug from Dell. But I ran into John (and his little brother) on the EMU lawn, so that was... cool. As much as he's frustrated and baffled me in the past, I really have missed that crazy kid. It'll be refreshing to have him back around.
After that run-in, we met up with Kristi and broke into Carson for our now-annual trip down Memory Lane. Things have changed a lot. They re-did the entire lobby and dining area; it's all shiny and cold, and they got rid of my beloved TV room where I spent so many S.E.P. afternoons eating YoCream and watching daytime TV. Getting older in a place that is constantly changing is sad... and maybe a little exhausting. I feel for Sarah's dad, who comes down to see his alma mater more transformed with every passing year.
"The Opposite of Hallelujah" is a great song. I am jealous of Eva and her trip to my homeland to see the Jens Lekman concert. Now that is a commitment to indie music that I can get behind.
This week has been busy, and a lot has happened in the last few weeks. On the 12th, Matt, Jade, and I caught the Rilo Kiley concert, which was fantastic, at the Crystal Ballroom. I was happy to see that everyone on stage seemed to be in a pretty good mood -- Jenny and Blake especially seem to be a fairly moody pair. In fact, everything went great until some asshole in the back yelled during the band's thank-yous that "Johnathan Rice SUCKED!" Which was stupid because he's Jenny's live-in boyfriend. But it's true -- Johnathan rice does suck. His band wasn't so bad though, and Grand Ole Party (a real indie unknown at this point) was even better, even if they were a bit (or a lot) too loud for my ears. The lead singer has a Karen O. quality about her that I can't decide if I like or not.
But change of topic! I don't care if it's ambitious and it sucks -- have you heard the soundtrack to "Across the Universe"? It's practically a religious experience. I can't wait!

Okay, I really, really do suck at blogging. I never even finished up the last blog. I just wrote it and left it up on my page for most of a week.
More stuff has happened, and plus, I never even mentioned New York.
School started yesterday, continued today. I filled in that hole in my schedule with the only class that was marginally interesting and could be actually fit in edgewise: Creative Writing. Which, as it turns out, is more reading. And seems boring. Motherfuck. In related news, my Ecology class seems potentially depressing; my Journalism, tremendously boring; and my Economics, surprisingly okay. And a relatively high number of my instructors this term are foreign: Peruvian and Japanese for International Communication and British for Econ. So that's interesting. A tad difficult to understand though...
I actually keep running into John, which is funny since I'd imagine we're coming from entirely different places on campus. I guess it's nice to see another familiar face around... I don't have many friends around the UO campus at the moment. He said he was already cast in a Robinson Theatre production, which is pretty much unheard of for freshmen, so that's pretty cool for him. I wonder if he'll still be involved with Duck U this term then?
Anyway, we're slowly getting our apartment together, although it's ghetto and I suspect everything will eventually go wrong. I mean, the front door doesn't meet the ground -- the afternoon sun streams in through the crack. There are spiders everywhere. Doors and cabinets won't shut without violence. Nothing is ever clean. And the walls have been really poorly repainted (if that). Still visible in our living room? A pot leaf, a giant tree, a heart, and written above the patio door in what appears to be dripping blood, "The truth is...". Creepy.
But I strung lights in my bedroom with these cool, little 3M clasps and picked up a brown damask rug, a captain's bed, and a brilliant crimson duvet to warm things up... Still deciding on the sheets... Plus, to make myself feel better, I bought this adorable, green Fair Isle sweater from Old Navy.
However, we've still only got the one love-seat in the living room, and that's just not gonna fly for "Chuck" and "30 Rock" watching. But I cannot be responsible for another piece of furniture or I'll go crazy (and broke), so I put that task on Sarah... We'll how that works out. And I'm really frustrated by our lack of art, too. Ugh.
What else, what else? Irritated at a couple boys in my life, but what's new there? They bring it upon themselves, I swear to God, yet I still get to bear the consequences after all this time. Well, the warning's out there: I'm not dealing with it much longer.
Oh! And Jade and I went to New York! Where we coincidentally ran into Kurt! Wow! And it was fabulous and freeing. Spent money, ate food, bought gifts, and walked my feet swollen and raw (no, really). My favorites? "Spring Awakening", Rockefeller Center, the MoMA, Magnolia Bakery, Central Park, and the skanky subway system. Chinatown was terrifying and hectic, but I do love my fake Dolce and Gabbana purse and Chanel necklace... And I already miss H&M. And I can't believe I missed out on hot dogs! I'm still heart-broken that I never got to go to Grey's Papaya... Ultimately, the City really didn't smell as bad as people say, nor were the residents are rude as you always hear. It was actually enormously diverse, a little filthy (but no more than Paris or Rome, really), and endlessly fascinating. I really do hope to live on that little island someday... Though maybe not in Greenwich Village, ick. A girl can dream.
However, I'm still shocked (SHOCKED!) that I managed to avoid picking up any communicable diseases while there. Glory, praise be.
And that's it for now -- I have early class, and I'm betting this thing is pretty long as it is. I'll try to be good from now on and update y'all. And oh, current celebrity gossip? Oscar de la Hoya's fishnet bodysuit and Baby V's naked, underage body. Argh.
