well over a month ago Heather and I had a day together. We both had the week off and George had a day of Daycare so we went up to Portsmouth, just she and I. I was desperate to see some art, but I didn't think that Portsmouth NH was going to do it for me. I was wrong. It has several decent galleries. The best one, to both our minds. was the Three Graces.
http://www.threegracesgallery.com/ The owner was very nice and she had a art vending machine. For 5 or ten dollars you put a token in and get a real piece of art by one of the artists represented by the gallery. Small, of course, but cool. Heather got a cool pendant. I love that repurposing of an old cigarrette machine to give you art, and the way prices are for a pack of cigarrettes (8 bucks for Marlboro) it is cheap to be an art collector when you think of it.
It had great art and crafts and then there was Nicole Maloof. They had a bunch of small pieces by her. They had a creepy cartoony vibe that just worked for me. I loved them. We left the gallery and had lunch, at a great pizza plaze that had a pizza buffet! Score! Throughout lunch and the rest of the gallery visits I was thinking of the drawings by maloof. Heather is too cools, she encouraged me, said we had a bunch of rolled quarters and we can afford it. So we went back and I bought a piece. It is funny, weird and to me quite amazing. It is titled Untitled (bug being scoped out by vampire blue things). You can go to this page and scroll down till you see the title.
