So we are now in Unit 2 of PA school which consists of orthopedics. Our first unit was HEENT (head, ears, eyes, nose, throat) which was MUCH easier because we all have had experience we getting sick but not so much with injuries. All I do is school. All day long. It also tends to consume much of my thoughts when I'm not working on it (rare occasion). They told us when we started to say goodbye to our family and friends for two years but I didn't realize just how serious they were. There really isn't much time for anything else unless you sacrifice school, which really isn't an option. Just learning all the nerves is enough to make you crazy!! This is different than undergrad where the anatomy was done by system (cardio, neuro, musculoskeletal, etc.). This is done by parts of the body (head, neck, shoulder, arm, forearm, etc.). Its really insane. And unless you have been here its a little tough to understand.
But I love it! I'm excited for what I will be doing (in 2 years). I was a PA conference this past week and I was really interested in a lot of the speakers, which has really never happened before. And I understood some of what they were talking about. The more interesting part was the challange bowl where the 2nd year students compete with the other schools. They ask questions similiar to what will be on our boards. It was INSANE. Schools were all decked out like it was a football game and one school (DeSalies Unviersity) even brought their mascot!. It was seriously nerd heaven.
So there is a quick update. I don't often I get to communicate with the outside world! My mom texted me today to ask if I was still alive!
I'm off to write my pediatric history. And rewrite my SOAP note. And study CABS. Sleep eventually will come!
Happy Fall!!
