I'm getting to a the point in The Swan Triad where I have to consider the lives of the characters post-adventure, and Molly is proving to be a bit of a logistics problem, so I'm hoping my UK contingent can help me out again.
What happens when someone fails to complete secondary school, but wants to go on to university? Here in the States we have the GED, which is the equivalent of a high school diploma. You study up on the subjects you would have learned in high school and take a test to prove you understand them (or at lease memorised them well enought to regurgitate them onto paper) and you get your GED.
Molly, as you all know, was abducted at the age of thirteen and has been held for six years. Needless to say, she never quite made it to sixth form. So what happens? Molly needs a way to get back on track, and a bright girl like her isn't going to settle for a lifetime of petrol stations and fast food venues. Halp!
And, as always, I thank you for helping me create the illusion that I know what I'm doing.
