On Wednesday night, TV-13 sent me out to Reading to cover the Phillies minor league game, since there are no other sports in our area going on right now. So I went, and filmed 5 1/2 innings of scoreless baseball featuring 18 strikeouts (for you non-baseball fans, that's a lot for that amount of time). Of course, as soon as I left, the Phillies scored 4 runs in the bottom half of the inning, but I couldn't have waited any longer.
I left at 8:45 because I had to be back to work a camera for the 10:00 news, and the drive from Reading takes about an hour. So I got about 10 miles north on 61, when the company Jeep flashed a message that said "check gauges." I looked down, and my temperature gauge was peaked at over 260 degrees...not good. My first instinct was to turn off the AC, roll down the windows, and turn on the heater. I drove for about a mile like that. When the temperature didn't go down at all, I pulled over and turned the car off. I got out and assessed the situation, and realized I wasn't going to make it home in time, because there was a nice stream of water coming out from under the car.
After seeing this, I phoned the station and they sent someone to pick me up. On the way there, he got pulled over for running a stop sign, but talked his way out of it. After he picked me up, we got pulled over in the same place on 895 for the same infraction, by the same cop. He talked his way out of it again...it was at this point he told me he didn't have his license on him. Kinda funny, really. The repair shop found out that my Jeep had a cracked radiator. Good thing I didn't try to drive any further.
So I got home about a half hour late that night, but I got paid for 30 extra minutes because of it (woo hoo). I was still excited because the next day was Warped Tour, my annual one day summer vacation. I ate some mushrooms and I had a fucking blast. If you've never heard of HORSE the band, you must check them out. Nintendo with guitars...orgasmic. I was sober by the time they came on, and they were still the best band I saw all day. Easily worth the 30 bucks I paid for a ticket. Less Than Jake was a close 2nd, Anti-Flag and Rise Against tie for 3rd, though RA holds a slight advantage because they talked less. The only thing that sucked about the whole day was that I had to drive into Jersey.
