Dear Yuletide Writer 2015

Nov 03, 2015 19:17

Hello Dear Writer and sorry for being a little late in bringing you this letter. Looking back, I see I am doing much better than previous years... but there is still room for improvements. Perhaps next year I will write a letter directly when I sign up! How about that!

Anyway, if you have already come up with something you want to write in either of these fandoms then please just go ahead and write it, and feel free to ignore what is below, with one exception: please no house wrecking/selling fics, for either Emily of New Moon or Practical Magic fandoms. In these fandoms the setting is like my favourite character...

So, prompts! I'll be brief since I have requested all of these fandoms before- so if you'd like more ideas/inspiration feel free to check the letters below from previous years. Generally for all these fandoms I am drawn to a sense of place and domesticity. Holiday fic is always nice, but of course not required. I don't mind dark stuff either.

Earthsea. If you matched with me on this fandom rest assured that you cannot fail to be awesome. Anything set in this world would be a joy. Perhaps a simple vignette of daily life in a village on one of the islands. Or a creepy look into the rituals that Arha has to perform for the Nameless Ones? Ogion gathering herbs...  Tehanu soaring on the wind... Apple making tea and pondering the price of bread... Original characters are awesome too! Or ignore the whole small and simple thing and visit a pirate king trafficking slaves and encountering Lebannens warships. Like I said, anything in this world is welcome. There are quite a few prompts for this fandom in previous letters if you are wanting something specific to get the creative juices flowing.

Emily of New Moon. I adore these books, but I always found that the supporting characters were more interesting than Emily and her friends. The Murray aunts especially. I want to get to know them and peek into their lives. Their daily work. Putting pesky relatives in their place. Themes of sisterhood, holding to traditions, being rooted in a time and place. It is hard to come up with a specific prompt for this one, I am just curious about life at New Moon in general.

Practical Magic. There are quite a few prompts below. But lets recap: Aunts are awesome! There should be a genre of fiction called Aunt-lit. Seriously (I'm sure House-lit is already a thing). If you love this movie like I do then you know where the magic is :) The ambiance..! Prompt ideas: Oh to spend a holiday in that house! Maybe the aunts are strapped for cash and have to open a B&B. What if Antonia grows up to be a heartbreaker... Perhaps Gillian finds herself enjoying a healthy relationship (a romantic one or perhaps making peace with the Aunts)?

Above all, I hope you write what you enjoy writing! Thank you for being lovely and I hope you get the fic of your dreams!
