In response to a thread on a certain local mailing list, I am going to post my response here in the interests of maintaining the peace. Thus:
"Speaking only for myself, and not for any of the various professional organizations I may work for or have worked for in the past, I feel obligated to say that if I ever heard someone utter a sentence like 'Shirley talks too yiffing much,' I would hit them in the throat with a 6 D-cell Maglite. I know this reaction seems extreme, and maybe you're right. Maybe a 4 D-cell Maglite would be enough. But my ancestors didn't attain their lofty perch on the food pyramid by settling for 'enough,' and I'm not going to break with a noble tradition. Plus I always buy D-cells in packs of 6, and I can't stand having two just rattling around loose in the drawer. That's free ammo for any poltergeist who wanders by."
