Dear writers of The Social Network fic,
While I find your desire to mock Farmville in many of your stories sometimes amusing, let's clear something up. Farmville, like nearly every other application - especially games, is not run nor developed by Facebook. It's developed by a third party company for use within Facebook's website. Your desire to express your own sense of superiority by having Mark/Dustin/etc express disgust over having to work on the application and the amazement/horror of its popularity is also kind of ridiculous. Yes, the snobbery you're implying is probably true to Mark's character in the movie (although much more telling about you). At the same time, maybe do some actual research on how FB functions. Also, Mark's snobbery in the movie seems largely focused on him thinking he knows what's best for making the website popular.
And Zynga (the makers of Farmville)? They make a fair amount of money from their variety of games (estimates for 2010 yearly income are about $600 million). When players buy things in the games, they use Facebook's credit system (a change this year that is now required of all games) and Facebook gets a 30% cut. In the overall scheme of Facebook's revenue, this is not a whole lot compared to their ad revenue, but it's still quite a bit of money. And for all the Mark's character might have claimed to not care about money in TSN, Facebook is a money making business now.
