While I didn't do much that I couldn't have done at any other time this past week, I still needed the downtime.
The weekend before was Momocon and while it could've gone a lot better, it was still a lot of fun. A power outage in one wing of the building forced the rhythm gaming room, which I was staffing, to move to a smaller room, basically where we were last year. It was pretty popular, mostly thanks to DDR, but we also had Pop'n, Keyboardmania, IIDX, and sessioned GuitarFreaks and DrumMania with GF ASCs. I also cosplayed as Akira from DDR the first day, and while I don't think anyone took pictures of me, since it wasn't as showy as most other costumes, I did get a few compliments. Maybe next time I'll actually use hair gel to make it more distinct. I also bought a couple of Initial D Eurobeat CDs which I didn't have yet. Later, I played EBA with some people who actually had the game card, and Parodius on the Sega Saturn, which was about 5 kinds of awesome. Unfortunately, Sunday brought about some joker who decided that firecrackers would be super cool to light and throw around. This caused the head staff to freak out and close the convention early. While I don't agree with their decision and it left a bad taste in the mouths of my friends, it couldn't be helped I suppose.
The week was pretty standard. I still had work at the Ferst Center, which wasn't too bad since it let me keep track of the renovation going on in the Student Center. For some reason I enjoy watching things change, especially building, no matter the magnitude. Later, when I had some days off, I went to the GameStop at Lenox to trade in some games towards my Pokémon Pearl preorder and stopped by the Borders nearby to catch up on Monster and Genshiken. I also saw the World of Disgaea artbook which I promptly purchased (DOOD). It also serves as a strategy guide, which may prove useful if I ever play it again. I also played a lot of DDR Ultramix 4, Ar tonelico, and Disgaea 2.
Then the weekend started up again and Saturday brought about hanging out at John's place with Drew and Alex. Started off with some GuitarFreaks/DrumMania and later played some of the original Beatmania games, namely The Sound of Tokyo and 6th + Core Mix. TSoT's soundtrack reminded me a lot of Katamari's, and 6th + Core has some really good stuff. DJ Battle (Jodler Mix) is one of the best songs on Beatmania. I'll accept it. Drew, Alex, and I left around 1 AM to go do my radio show. Hector decided to pop in once we got to the station, but he didn't have much to contribute to the show's discussion other than to take digs at me. I played music from Advance Wars DS straight from the DS and since me and Drew are huge fans of the game, we just talked about the characters and how the game works and stuff.
On Sunday, the same group decided to head out to a Japanese restaurant because it would be awesome, and awesome it was indeed. Alex wanted to get the hot pot meal, or sukiyaki, but since there was a two-order minumum in order to get it, I decided to try it out too. It was a little pricey, but it was totally worth it, with pork, mushrooms, tofu, and some weird-looking but very tasty noodles. I didn't know mushrooms could taste that good. There were two kinds, Shiitake and a long, stringy kind none of us could remember, so John just called them "broken", like TOO good. Afterwards, we stopped by the next-door Japanese grocery for snacks. After seeing them sell Pocky for less than $1 a box, I'll never but it anywhere else, if I liked Pocky anyway. I opted to get the koala-shaped cookie things. I think they were the original "Koala Yummies" that were available in the US for a while. Don't know what happened to them; they were pretty good. After that, we went back to John's place again for some Garou: Mark of the Wolves and KOF XI. ARE YOU OK? BUSTA WOLF!
Now I have to go finish a computer music project and study for a business taxation test tomorrow. Hooray.
