Doctor Who?

In honor of the start of season five of Doctor Who (and because Rose is an enabler) I present yet another drabble staring the gen 7 Dorans in Antarctica.

It was getting late but the four Dorans had finally managed to find a place to stay in Antarctica.  Pooling their cash they had discovered they had more than they thought and now the only thing that was left was to get some groceries and find another winter coat for David.

“Hey look! There’s an H&M up there!” Rose said as she pointed up the street.

“They should have some decent coats,” David nodded as he tried not to shiver.  The four siblings hurried to the store.

Once inside the store they began to spread out.  David went to look at coats with Rose while Donna headed over to the electronics machine to check out the game systems.  Jack, however, continued to stand by the doorway and take in his surroundings.  The store was rather busy with a group of teenagers over by the electronics and parents with younger children shopping in the clothing section.  One young child skipped by Jack on her way to the other side of the store, catching Jack’s attention because somehow she looked familiar.  He watched her wander over to one of the adults saying “Hey Mom what do you think about this one for my teen outfit?” and then Jack did a double take.  The woman that turned around was his mother, Marla.  She was even wearing the black dress that he had seen her put on every now and then for special occasions.  But what was she doing here?  And had she and his father had more kids?  The little girl definitely shared Jack’s nose but her eyes were a brilliant shade of green, very different from his mother’s green or his father’s light blue.

He looked around wondering if his father was in the shop too and trying to figure out how to let them know that their four oldest children were there.  He spotted Sebastian over in a corner talking to Phin.  Jack shook his head wondering if he was imagining things.  It was too strange, why was his family here in the middle of this frozen tundra?  Had they had to run from the elves too?  Had that TARDIS machine really brought them back to their parents?

He turned and noticed that David and Rose had wandered over towards him, David holding a new jacket.
“You look like you’ve just seen a ghost,” Rose said once she caught a glimpse of his face.

“Yeah, what’s up?” David asked.

In response Jack pointed wordlessly toward Marla.

“Wow! Mom?” Rose said with excitement.  She started towards Marla but David was too quick for her, grabbing her arm to stop her.

“Hey!  Don’t you want to say hi?  What are we waiting for?” Rose demanded.

“Something isn’t right,” David replied narrowing his eyes.

Marla and the little girl had now been joined by a man with red hair and bright green eyes like the little girl’s.  “I don’t know Edith, sweetheart, that seems a bit too revealing for my taste,” he said.  “But Dad, Jeanie totally has a new teen outfit picked out that shows more skin than this!” the little girl replied.

“Now I’m really confused,” Jack said.  I swear that girl just called our Mom, “Mom” and now she’s calling that strange man “Dad” but our Dad is over there….” He trailed off with his mouth hanging open as he tried to process what he was now seeing.  Rose and David followed Jack’s gaze and they too froze in shock just as Donna rejoined them.

“Hey so the teens in this town are really cool.  I just met another part alien named Spacely and his girlfriend Ginger and…what are you three looking at?” she demanded when it became clear that no one was paying attention to her.  Turning her head to see what they were watching Donna said quietly “Oh.”  Over in the corner their father was now making out with Phin while Marla and her apparent husband were negotiating with their daughter not too far away.

“What the hell?” Jack said turning on Donna.  “It’s like we are in some sort of bizarro world.  What did you do?”

“Umm…well…I did mention that the TARDIS could travel to parallel dimensions right?” Donna shuffled her feet uncomfortably.

There was a long pregnant pause and then David burst out with “Wait?  So we are in a parallel world and…and… Dad is GAY here?  And Mom is married to someone else?”

“Looks like it,” Donna replied.

“And we’re stuck in this bizarro world.  Frickin’ fantastic,” Jack snapped before stomping out of the door.

“Yeah this is way too weird for me,” Rose said and followed him.

“Guess I’ll just get a coat tomorrow,” David said after a moment, and set his planned purchase down on a table before leaving the shop, too flustered to remember to open the door.

Donna stood by herself near the door for a moment longer, watching her “parents” interact with their spouses, her usual smile gone.  “We’re going to have to get used to it.  I can’t get us back,” she whispered quietly before following her siblings outside.  Once out the door though her frown lasted only a few seconds longer before she again broke into a grin.  If they were on a parallel world maybe that meant that the elves here were friendly instead of murderous!  And with that thought she hurried to catch up with Rose, Jack, and David, determined to make them see that his could still be a really cool adventure.
