Belated Happy Mother's Day!

A belated Happy Mother's Day to many of you! :)

With the nice weather and an active toddler, we've been spending so much time outside. And with a courtyard community, Jana plays outside however long she wants and from time to time, she'll ask a neighbor to go into their home. I do get sheepish when a neighbor pops their head out their front door and yells out to me, "Can Jana have some pineapple?" Or "peaches" or some food. I usually pause before answering since she typically eats well at dinner then say, "Yes." Then I think, "Really, my child eats at home. There is plenty to eat."

Mother's Day was simple, a trip to Trax Farms. Nothing like an hour drive to get somewhere that's about 12 miles away. They do have a nice play area, a wooden pirate ship with a slide. Jana enjoyed that while I loaded up the cart with goodies from the nursery and garden center. Jana surprisingly helped, we were looking in the greenhouse at the veggies and herbs when Jana popped outside than yelled in, "Mom! Mom! I found it!" "Um, found what?" I came out and saw baby strawberry plants. Laugh, the primary seedlings I came to Trax, best tasting strawberries in the area!

Yeah, so I have like a hundred seedlings that I started at home, and I wanted to buy more. The strawberries were planned for Trax though. But I decided to load up on any seedlings that Michael was interested in (like Tabasco pepper) for cooking and those that are idea for container or smal space gardening. I still have about 80 garlic plants taking up 1.5 out of 2 of my beds. So most of my seedlings are just waiting for their turn.

The haul, based on memory:
Spacemiser Zucchini
Bush Cucumber
Patio Tomato
Husky Cherry Tomato (2)
Ichiban Eggplant (I only have 1 seedling)
Tobasco Pepper
Cubanelle Pepper
Sundance Squash
Early Jalapeno (my 2nd year in a row with poor germination)

Can you tell? It was discounted on purchases 10 or more. :)

Their produce market was sparse and the grape tomatoes I picked up came from Florida! Their strawberry muffins were fantastic and didn't last long in our house.

My favorite quote that I heard...a family with several boys came into the garden center. One boy said, "Hey, what smells good?" His brother pointed to a display they were walking by, "Bug spray?"

Really, by the registers they were popping kettle corn and down at the bakery, I could smell apple pies being pulled out of the ovens. It really did smell good throughout the place. It was a nice break in general.
