This afternoon we had lunch at the Cheesecake Factory on the SouthSide. We took a stroll afterwards and found ourselves at a gallery participating in
Pittsburgh ROARS. They were warm and very welcoming to us. Jana saw an older girl, maybe she was 9, and got a little attached to her. She followed her around the gallery and micmic'd her as they both looked at other children's pieces on the wall. Then Jana said she wanted to participate so I took her to an empty chair at an activity table where she got busy for at least an hour.
She made 2 pieces, we were going to take them home but they asked to put them up as part of their exhibit next week. I chuckled, "Wow, her first public exhibit at 2!"
I only had my phone camera with me, I was taking picture of Jana earlier in the morning while we were playing and running around in the courtyard so I left the DiMage at home.
There were a lot of compliments regarding seeing a 2 year old doing so well with scissors. I never know if I should be proud or be sheepish that we encourage her to use scissors in her artwork at home. Jana also thought very carefully about what pieces she chose to glue together and the coloring.
Of the two pieces she made, she named one, "Rocket Ship" and told the Gallery people that. So I wonder if that's how they'll title her work.
Anyway, she gets her first public exhibit at 2, I had my first public exhibit at 16! Yeah, I'm really tickled, even if it's a kiddie event. We plan to go back next week anyway and we'll probably bring one of the Canons.
