I am in incredible discomfort and pain. I believe my cold from Friday, 4 days ago, has evolved into sinusitis. A sinus infection. This is the second night in a row where I wake up every 2 hours because of the pain. And it takes about 45 min to fall back asleep. No relief from over-the-counters and it's now a waiting game until my dr appt at 9:15am. I'm currently ice packing my head and I won't bother to take anything tonight.
My top left cheek feels like it was just kicked in. Getting through work the past couple of days has been trying plus Jana's wining and acting up a bit more than usual again. Time to start up the sticks again.
The likely culprit, nasal spray. Over the past couple of years I've sworn off cold medicine and whenever I get sick, I focus on getting the best quality sleep I can. As a result and to deal with congestion, I started using saline then moved to nasal sprays. At this point, 50% of my use of nasal sprays has resulted in a sinus infection. Although I haven't seen the dr yet, I'm rather confident that's what this is.
Here's an interesting
finding from the web:
"Sometimes over the counter nasal sprays can not only cause infection, but can also be addictive."
With the warm weather we've been having, I just didn't want to create humidity in the house nor run steam in the bathroom.
As a child when I'd get congested, my mom would apply Vicks vapor rub on a cotton ball, then safety pin it to my pillow or my pajama. I hated that. A side benefit resulted in my eagerness and rapid learning of operating the washing machine and doing laundry. At least we do have a new washing machine that's been so efficient, I think I caught Michael the other day looking for items to wash, anything.
I guess there is no harm in trying out one of mom's old techniques. I guess it worked. And she too was a fan of avoiding use of over-the-counter cold medicines. It's hard to admit those times when mom was right.
