Weekend...

Friday afternoon was nice, since I worked from 3am-11am and then from 2-5 on Thursday, I took off early on Friday, 4:15pm. :/ There is work I could do over the weekend, but with Michael going out of town again, nah, won't do it. I went to a local nursery to pick up my favorite potting mix, ProMix. "We don't carry that anymore." "Oh no!" Turns out, it was being delivered from Canada and they stopped delivering to them. So the switched to 3B. Fine, but I had to purchase a 2.8 cu ft bag. More than I want to carry up 4 flights of steps to my home garden and Jana hated having it in my Jeep (partial seat folded so it was next to her) so we dropped it off at the plot when I picked her up from school Friday. She does seem to let me carry it home in small bags.

Saturday was threats of thunderstorms all day. It cleared up by afternoon. No gardening at the plot, but some light gardening at home. I took Jana to the Strip District Saturday afternoon where she got a taste of Saturday at the Strip. That's perhaps _the_ marketplace for the area. Street vendors along with the market vendors there. She was treated well by vendors. A chocolate cookie from Enrico's Biscotti, freebies for kettle korn, a treat from Prestogeorge, etc. Hockey is crazy here right now, so she saw a lot of Penguin Hockey stuff being pushed like a penguin hat. She thought it was funny on the vendor, but walked cautiously around him.

Early Sunday morning, Michael packed for his trip and I ran off to a local home improvement store to pick up lumber for the mini deck. The original plan called for 2 cheap 4'x8' pieces of plywood. Well, what I saw for $6 I don't consider plywood and I couldn't lift one sheet. The cheapest plywood I saw was for $9 and I think it was only 1/8". Plus, I needed to rent a pick up again. I scrapped that plan for deck lumber that was on sale! 5/4x6x8 for $4.99 and 5/4x6x10 for $6.99! Sweet. I drew it out and made quick calculations and stuffed my Jeep.

Just under 2 miles to my garden plot, I was on my way. When I arrived there, a fellow gardener, Jim, offered to help me unload the lumber. He'd been gardening there for 16 years. Then he asked, "Are you building a house?" I laughed, "I guess you could say that." I explained my project. I shared this with Michael when I got home and he said, "You deserved that." :)

Although I went back to the garden with Jana after Michael left, I didn't work on the deck, instead, I gardened. Wow, I got to garden! Jana got her first ride in a wheelbarrow and she was thrilled.
