We were back at my "messy garden" again on Sunday. It was a milestone day for Jana, I guess. For the first time, I saw her actually trying to sneak around my back.
There was a puddle of water by some straw/hay growing. She was content to find a stick and stir her pretend soup. Occasionally looking for a bigger stick. Chrystos shows up with his mom, my colleague from work who introduced me to the Community Garden (they just returned from a week in Seattle visiting her in-laws). Now the last time we encountered Chrystos, who's about twice Jana's age, Jana tried hard to keep up with him at the office Holiday party and came home with a split and swollen lip.
During this encounter, Jana wants to take parking lot rocks and throw them into this swampy water. I had successfully asked her to stop and was able to find her rocks out of my garden beds to throw in. Suddenly, she's now figured out to go behind my car, out of my sight, with Chrystos on the "lookout" for her to sneak rocks into swampy water! Sigh. I try to get them interested in something else. Next thing I realize, they're both jumping in the swampy water. Chrystos, however, had his rain boots on. My kid, in the meantime, is putting mud in-between her toes. :/
At that point, I figure it's pointless to stop her. She's enjoying herself and for the first time, letting herself get dirty. Might as well let her get full enjoyment out of making a mess. Boy, both kids got pretty stinky. I learned to keep spare shoes in the car but couldn't find her spare socks. No spare bottoms, but I had a blanket to wrap around her. It was a stinky ride home still.
Jana got mud all over her face and hair as well.
Good thing I like Chrystos. Laugh.
At least I was able to make more progress on the plot clean-up and I'm ready to start building more beds and putting in the fence. The fence part will have to wait for Michael's return. I think I need to seed start a lot more marigolds.
I think I want to re-use the bricks and stones for an entry path.
