Back from the Shore
I had a simply WONDERFUL time at the shore this weekend. jackette and gomeisaneelie could not be better traveling companions. It took us forever just to get out of Philly Friday afternoon, but there was no rush or stress, so we just sung along to the music, rolled down the windows, and made snarky comments about the other drivers. Had dinner at Mack & Manco's, walked along the boards, ate junk food and turned in, getting up bright and early to hit the beach the next day.
Before the beach, we had breakfast and then rented a surrey to ride along the boards, which was great and was something I'd never done before. Afterwards, it was right into the beach clothes and down to the sand. Being Ocean City and being downtown and being Saturday, the beach was naturally crowded, but the three of us found a cozy spot and settled in just enough to be able to leave our spots and head for the waves. The ocean kicked our asses all three times we got in it that day, but it was so much fun. When we weren't in the ocean, we were scoping out the "scenery." :D A thunderstorm chased a lot of beach-goers away early that afternoon, but we stayed until it looked like a second one was going to come in. So, we packed up, went back to the room, got our showers, had dinner, and walked along the boards some more, eating our way through. We finally ended up at Wonderland just long enough to ride the giant Ferris wheel. Pleasantly exhausted, we headed back and crashed early.
We got up a little later the next morning, moving very slowly, but we had a good breakfast and managed to pack the car, checkout, and hit the beach again before 10:30-11:00. The waves were even rougher than before, so we only went into the ocean a couple of times, but we had a nice spot in the sand, and we were content to relax and doze until it was time to be getting on the road. The trip home was peaceful, and despite all my good intentions to go to work today, I was just too sleepy to manage it. So here I am, giving an actual update, and reminding myself that I am NOT responsible for other people's emotions. I cannot allow their emotions to affect my own so radically. It's harder than it sounds.
