I just watched the end of the sixth season of The West Wing. I always forget how much I love that show. Over the past two years I have discovered the satisfaction of watching a good TV drama. Of course not all tv is good, but certainly some of it is. I've come to enjoy 24 for it's high production value and exciting plot twists; Lost for it's intriguing premise and addicting cliff-hangers; Scrubs for it's irreverent humor and lovably piquaresque cast of characters; and Sex and the City for, let's be honest, Mr. Big. In some ways, television is superior to film. I think in a TV drama, there is the opportunity to immerse oneself in a richer world with more complete characters. The West Wing is an example of truly exemplary television. It makes me proud to say that one day I hope to write for film and tv.
