Ok. So. It’s been a while. And I actually have a lot to talk about. Which means that this will be kinda long and no one will actually read it. Oh well.
Let’s start with the happy and move on from there. Vacation last week was fucking awesome. We spent 8 days in Fort Lauderdale at Cousin Jeff’s dad’s house, and it was lazy and perfect. Literally, we spent 80% of the time at the house and it was amazing. Highlights:
Prince Caspian
Cheap Dippin’ Dots every day!
Awesome Lizard King (Brown Basilisk)
Saving the pelican at the beach
Awesome turtles at the drainage pond
Lots of walking (mostly to get dippin dots)
Homemade cheesecake
Board games
NOT getting thrown in the pool for once!
Frogs!
And that will keep me from rambling on for paragraphs on end about stuff that’s only interesting to me!
Moving on.
After vacation, things were not quite as relaxed. For one, a big tree in our neighbor’s yard fell down the night before we returned. It hit a smaller tree in their yard which also fell down, and ultimately hit a big tree on our property next to our driveway. Our tree did not fall, but it is leaning a little more towards the house now, which is disconcerting. Apparently it’s strongly rooted though, and not at risk of falling any time soon. The neighbor’s trees are only encroaching on our property a little, but it’s enough to be annoying. A lot of the little limbs were blocking our driveway (now cleared away) but more annoying is that a big limb is practically crushing one of the new azaleas I bought. The big expensive one to be exact. And I’m afraid that it will die if the tree doesn’t go away soon. So hopefully the neighbors will take care of this shit ASAP. Of course, it’s already been a week…
Work this week was insane, too, but now it’s Friday and things are nice and slow again.
On top of all of that, Pibby has been diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, which is pretty crappy. Basically, he has a tumor on his pituitary gland that is telling his adrenal glands to overproduce Cortisol. We caught it really early, so right now all it’s doing is making him drink and pee a lot. If left untreated, eventually the symptoms could worsen severely (hair loss, thinning skin resulting in lesions, weakness of heart and limb muscles, etc.) So now the issue is treatment. The standard is Lysodren treatment, which kills off the outer layer of the adrenal glands limiting the amount of Cortisol they are able to product. That way, even though the pituitary gland is still telling them to make too much, it balances out to the normal level or production. However, this is a very aggressive and irreversible treatment, and if over done, could lead to Addison’s disease. Plus, there are some serious potential side effects from Lysodren. So right now I don’t now if his symptoms warrant such an aggressive treatment, or if it would be better to hold off for now. There is an alternative option, but I haven’t had enough time to research it yet. It also doesn’t help that I am getting conflicting advice from 2 different vets. I just want to make sure I am doing what’s best for Pibby. After all, he’s going to live forever so he has to be comfortable.
Resa’s baby shower is on Sunday, but I’m not invited so I’ll be heading to Athens instead to join the lovely Marissa Y and co for some kayaking fun. I’m also unexpectedly off work tomorrow, so I’m going to my coworker’s graduation party, which should be awesome.
Marissa KC moved out, so now we’re on the hunt for a new roommie. Our coworker at BHV, Rachel, is thinking about moving in, which would be awesome. She’s going to come by tomorrow afternoon to look at the place and make sure her dog is ok with the kitties. I guess that means we should clean…
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TONIGHT OMG this week’s episode looks balls-out crazy. I. Can’t. Wait.
And that should do it for now. <3 <3
