Ok.
So.
I'm contracted through Staffing Resources to work this long-term contract with Merial, which I love. It is a rule that you have to work a minimum of 520 hours (13 weeks) before being eligible to apply for a permanent position. Also, at my interview with Merial, they stressed that while permanent positions were definitely a posibility, the fastest temp-to-perm hire was 7 months.
I have been here for 11 weeks. Last Thursday the posted an internal job listing to hire on 2 additional permanent Frontline techs. They stated that the posting would only be up for 5 business days. I did not apply because I haven't worked the minimum number of hours yet, and also there are several other contracted employees who have been here much longer/have more responsibilities than I do, and I didn't think I would be considered anyway.
Today, my manager walked up to me and said: "Why didn't you apply for the job?"
Me: "I haven't been here for 13 weeks yet."
Manager: "Submit your resume. Now."
She actually called Staffing Resources to confirm how many hours I've worked here and how many I would need to work before becoming a permanent hire. She said that by the time the job would officially start, I would have been here long enough so it isn't a problem to apply now.
I am psyched. Granted, I do not think I will get the job for the reasons I mentioned above, but the fact that my manager is so encouraging is a really good sign that it will eventually happen. Hopefully sooner than later.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keeping my fingers crossed anyway, of course =D
